Can anyone let me know if they rent small power boats(20 feet or so)for the day or by the hour on STX.
Aslo how are the roads do you recomend renting a Jeep if you we want to do some island exploring to some remote beaches.
Any info. would be great.

I am not aware of any commercial boat rental agencies on STX. Doesn't mean you can't rent a boat, just that you need to know someone.

As for driving to the beach, many of the best beaches can be reached with just a car. Some of the remote beaches are best reached with a SUV, but in many cases you are going to have to park and walk in. No road of any type.

Thanks for the info.
I heard some of the roads were unpaved and a little rough for some cars.
Does anyone know why they don't rent the small powerboats like they do an STT.

Fewer tourists.

Fewer places to go with a small boat.

Thats my opinion anyway.

A small car is just fine for almost anything. There are a few unpaved roads but overall the roads are in relatively good shape. There are some potholes in spots but nothing too bad. I did drive an unpaved road once up near the rainforest with a small car. It was O.K., but the weather was good that day. If it's raining you need to use common sense as to where you attempt to go on unpaved roads. As far as the boat rental thing, I guess Jim Dandy is right. I can't think of any place to go with a boat rental that you can't get to with a car or jeep. Perhaps Green Cay would be a place to go to with a boat. I don't know for sure if you can go to Buck Island and snorkel the reefs. I think you need to be approved by the"Government". I have seen private boats on the beach at Buck Island on the weekends.
