I was sad to hear Burrito Bay closed up shop. Anyone know what happened?

Also has anyone been too the new restuarant that took over the Off the Hook space? How is it?

Burrito bay is closed but is being renovated. We heard, when there last month that it may re-open or it may be a different business. As to Off The Hook, they too are closed and being renovated. The new place is actually next to it and it's a Bar/Grill called the "Big Bamboo". It's very good and reasonable. Tiki Bar atmosphere. Used to be a small service station on this property. To me it looks like the renovations include decks and walking paths that run between the marina area and these businesses. From what I saw at Off The Hook and Burrito Bay there are extensive upgrades that look to be geared toward the restaurant environment. IT looks like the area will be quite nice when complete.

My parents were down there last month and said that the restaurant that is replacing off the hook was set to open last week. Is it delayed? Any name?

The location formerly operating as "Off The Hook" is now operating as "Fish Tails" (completely different ownership) and so far I've heard very good reviews of the food and service. The "Big Bambooz" is next to it, reviews still very much up and down.

"As the Island Restaurants Turn"!!!!

Thanks. Love the name, will have to try it out when I'm down there in Aug. Hopefully Burrito deli or it's reincarnation will be up and running by then!

Sorry to hear about Burrito Bay. Wonder if anyone is going to do the Chihuahua races this year?

Burrito Bay sold...former proprietors still on island...get their yummy food at Bluebeard's Castle pool bar and Old Stone Farm House. I don't think their serving burritos though.

Look forward to seeing your opinion, Anita! Sometimes they come and go so fast that I don't get there before they close!

Funny (and no, I'm not soliciting business and have never even mentioned my place by name on any forum) but the monthly water tester was here today and we managed to grab a quick chat.

In order to facilitate the monthly testing I installed an outside faucet years ago so the testers could come at their leisure without worrying about my limited schedule. "Lord!" she said through the window, "Whatever you're cooking smells SOOOO good!" I told her it was the Thursday night lamb shanks and she said, "Girl, I don't eat meat but that smells SOOOO good!"

I chuckled and said, "Well, I don't mess around where food is concerned and can you believe that it's been 14 years already?" She about fell out and said, "That long already? (She's been testing my water since day one but we all know how time just flies by). You know how many have come and gone in those 14 years? They come and go like crazy!"

Indeed they do. It's a very hard business. New owners come in with all good intentions to "make a mark" on the culinary horizon but very few make it beyond five years for so many different reasons.

Just a comment. Cheers!

well, stt resident, you have a point, it used to be piccola marina (i think that's how it's spelled) and then off the hook. let's see if the public "bites"!:@)
