We love the SJU-STT-STX flights on Cape Air. The short, low flights and fantastic views make this a treat (even though I'm not Mr. Iron Stomach in turbulence). The down side of the small planes is that they are a bit more prone to flight delays and cancellations than the bigger AA planes, and we experienced that last November on our way home. We re-booked on AA to get home, and still had our STX-STT tickets.

The Cape Air staff took fantastic care of us during the delay and eventual cancellation by giving us periodic weather updates, rescuing our luggage to put us on the AA flight, and even assuring us that we could use our flight coupon within a year. Yesterday, I booked the STX-STT leg of our July trip, and was pleased that the tickets were still valid, were taken as even exchange for the new flight, and had no change fee. We had figured that there would be change fees that exceeded the value of the ticket, but not so. A big thanks to Cape Air!

Here's the lemonade we made from the lemon weather: the refreshment stand in the local waiting room at STX has some homemade ginger beverage as well as some mighty tasty maubi (which we had sought in vain during our short stay on the island). We try to enjoy the local tastes, sights and sounds when visiting, and this was something we thought we had missed. The young lady running the stand was delightful and commiserated with us over the weather. (This was typical of the Crucian hospitality we experienced: warm, welcoming, and proud of Crucian heritage. I've been trying to put this all in a trip report, but I keep stalling at the very sad memories of the drowning while we were at Salomon on STJ earlier in the trip...) We missed our flight from SJU to SEA, so stayed at La Concha in San Juan -- which was beautiful -- got another meal of mofongo, tostones and all things yucca and plantain that night, and snagged first class seats for the long flight home.

Oops, just meant to call out Cape Air's nice handling of our tickets, and got carried away...I'm pretty sure you'll all understand
