We (2 people) are looking for a catamaran full day sail from St Thomas or St John to Jost Van Dyke in December. I read good reviews about "No Shooz" but when I contacted them, they said it is no longer in use. They had another sail but it took up to 49 people! We are looking for something a bit less crowded, maybe 6-12 guests. Any suggestions? Again, looking for a catamaran, not a yacht type or speed boat....

Or are we better off using the ferry? A catamaran seems so much more relaxing, etc. Plus, when I click on the ferry schedules within this site, nothing actually comes up going to Jost Van Dyke.

I might suggest the early morning ferry to STJ. Make a reservation with one of the STJ to JVD companies. We like Calypso. They will take you to a snorkel stop and then to JVD. You will return to STJ and clear customs.

My guess is that a Catamaran trip is just too much time lost and that's why you won't find them from STT. You would have to clear customs on the way back by about 5.00 pm and make your way on that same cat to STT.

Might want to check out Scubadu http://www.sailvi.com for a cat charter. From STT (STJ) to Jost is a wonderful day under sail and you can plan your own itinerary. Nightwind, Winifred, Fantasy (the one I've gone with a couple of times) are not cats and there are other sails. Some offer lunch on board while with others you are on your own (having lunch on Jost - good roti at Ali Babba). I would try to hook up with others (or maybe the charter co can help) to defray the cost if you didn't want your own private trip or maybe the charter co can suggest an option.
I love the sailing - especially when you get to sit back and watch someone else do the work - altho it is not a hard sail!

Depends on what you are really looking for.........Do you want to spend the day sailing the beautiful waters of the islands or do you want to experience Jost? If you want to experience Jost I suggest catching the early ferry from either St. John or St. Thomas (however they only run Friday, Saturday and Sunday). Once in Jost you can walk (or cab it) to the different spots. The walk to Ivan's and Soggy Dollar Bar take about 25 (up a hill and then down a hill) minutes from the ferry, about 10 minutes to Foxy's, or there is the amazing "Bun" taxi driver who is always looking to take you to those spots and his relatively inexpensive and a very amazing guy. Just depends on what you want to do..........Jost is a VERY laid back tranquil island, no banks, no paved streets, no tourist sights, just tons of beautiful beach where you can soak up the sun, have a painkiller (or two, three, four), and meet some amazing locals. Just my two cents. 106 more days until my feet hit White Bay beach and Ivan's stress free bar...........:)

You can try Calypso (www.calypsovi.com) out of St. John. They take up to 20 on their Jost van Dyke trips. I used to be the first mate on the boat, it is a catamaran sailboat that does take a decent number of people but they are not as big as some of the other ones that can hold up to 40 or 60 people. Other larger catamarans would be Island Spirit out of the Westin, Daydreamer out of St. Thomas and Lady Lindsey out of the Ritz. You also have Coconuts out of St. Thomas but they would be my absolute last suggest just based on the style and layout of the boat, not a very comfortable setup.
