I have been told that my Verizon Iphone 4 does not work in St Thomas. I was advised by Verizon to buy a prepaid phone for my week trip when I arrive at the airport. Does anyone know how much that would cost?

Verizon does not have any towers in the USVI. Your iPhone 4 with Verizon will work but you will be roaming and incoming/outgoing calls will be charged at $1.95 per minute. No data service but you can send and receive Text messages, as long as they don't include photos, and you will be covered under your stateside plan for text.

Best method is to install the Skype App and make your calls when connected to WiFi. If you would rather get a separate temporary phone then go to Walmart/BestBuy in your home town and get a GoPhone with AT&T service and activate it just prior to flying to the USVI.

I have Verizon. I have a Galaxy s4. Your data use is the same as the US, unless you happen to pick up a BVI signal which happens almost immediately upon getting off the ferry in STJ (always at Trunk, I get the BVI signal text message). Your minute usage, however, is $1.99/min(assuming you are from the continental US). Texts use whatever is currently on your plan, again, unless you pick up a BVI signal. I always power off my phone when I get back to STT from STJ so it picks up the US signal again. I have never had an issue. Sometimes, slower than favorable i-net service. Also I downloaded an app called "Boss Revolution" and had great success in making calls to home through the app itself. Then, it just uses my data,!

I have Verizon too. I just purchased a trac phone on QVC for $71 for my November trip with triple minutes for life meaning for every minute you purchase you receive 3 minutes. Comes with 1500 minutes. Has blue tooth, wifi, and texting though it costs two minutes for each text. It also has replacement protection. they will send you a new phone if you damage it. I was in STT and STJ and June and did not like the spotty coverage with Verizon. If you chose to just take your current phone make sure you get on international calling. It does not cost extra just allows you to avoid roaming. I had to make one call and I was not charged for it even though they said I would be. Data and texting was per my contract which was free when i was able to get a signal. Looks like the price went up a bit but they do give you a choice of four phones now too.
