I have verizon and we just got back from St John yesterday (boo hoo). We had terrible service there, none at all on our villa which was on the south side facing St Croix overlooking Rendevoux Bay. We were on roam there. My son't girlfriend had cingular and she had no problem with phone service anywhere and could even send text and pix. Seems most of the locals have cingular. Next time I will buy one of those prepaid phones.

When we were down we also used our cingular with no problem. We did connect via BVI though and were charged extra. Tell the gf to check her bill. Just call & say you were in SYJ not a BVI and they will remove the charge. People in a store were complaining about their verizon plan & paying a lot per minute in STT. Cingular has no extra charge for USVI...may want to check verizon, I could be wrong.
