I am planning a trip to St John in June and have frequent flyer miles I can use to pretty much fly to any place in the continental US that Alaska Air goes but its hard to find dates all the way to the USVI. So I want to know where I can fly to and get the cheapest flights to St Thomas. Any ideas?

I see Alaska Airlines flies into Detroit. I recently purchased a round trip flight on Spirit Airlines From Detroit to Ft. Lauderdale to St. Thomas and back for $305. Keep in mind that Spirit charges for overhead compartment and and checked bags. I will be flying with all my clothes packed in a back pack that will fit underneath the seat which they do not charge. There maybe other airlines that fly direct from Atlanta.

I am starting in Portland Or. I figured somewhere on the east coast. Logically I was thinking that Florida would have the cheapest flights but air fare is not always logical.

I would say that Ft. Lauderdale Spirit airlines daily flight but again, try Atlanta too.

So far it seems like Ft Laurderdale would be the cheapest.

Bear in mind there is least expensive and then cheap. I admit to never flying them but Spirit stories of woe are legendary. Be prepared to 'pay' for saving a few dollars.

Very true Chris. I have never had a problem but have always flown "bare fares." November I will simply have a back pack. Seems like the airlines charge you for everything beyond the ticket now a days.. How much to lower my tray table?
