Just flew Spirit on one of their sales, $8.00 each way. The $16.00, after taxes, etc.,was 133.00 R/T. a great deal, but a little deceiving. You must pay for each piece of checked luggage, $5.00 on-line or $10.00 at the airport. If your bag weighs over 50 LBS. there is a surcharge of $25.00. So, if you aren't careful, that fare could cost you an extra $90.00, at least.
You will get NOTHING to eat or drink, unless you pay for it. A pregnant woman sitting next to me asked for a glass of water, the stewardess would only give her ice and told her to let it melt, that's just wrong!
The airline is a budget airline, very understaffed. Expect long lines and the handling of your luggage yourself, they have no curbside check-in(Fort Lauderdale). Also, the seating space is very cramped. The least amount of leg room I've ever had.

I did keep a pretty thorough journal during my stay. I was only there for four nights, but managed to do a lot. I probably won't get to post a trip report until after the holidays.

Like you we use Spirit often.

Their sales are great....the most we ever paid to STT from Atlantic City, NJ was $89. each way (plus the taxes & security fees). I don't think they get any of the tax or security fee money. As for baggage....paying $5./bag isn't that bad and as for the on-board meal service....well the other airlines have cut back so much you're lucky to get a muffin and coffee. We usually get a bite to eat at the airport.

To my knowledge Spirit uses all new Air Bus 319's.....and I haven't felt uncomfortable at all aboard their flights. You got a really great bargain for $16. round trip!!!!!! I'd like to see one of those sales from NJ.

Thanks to all for your info. It looks like we will be flying Spirit. We do not take that much luggage-very casual travelers. Has anyone taken coolers with foods as we do when we go.

Mricco...

We've taken coolers. Once with alot of people we took a large cooler. Everything was frozen before we went...things like bacon, chicken, ham, shrimp, etc. Last time we went with just the 2 of us we only took some bacon and porkroll. With the larger cooler we put it on as luggage. Last time we carried a collapsible cooler which worked out great for the beach.
