2 days and counting! Does anyone know how easy or difficult it will be to try and get around a little without a car/jeep? We are staying in the park at Cinnamon Bay. We don' t mind walking or hiking for half an hour to get to where we are going... Can you walk to Trunk Bay within 10 - 20 minutes thru trail system? How long a walk would it be from campground out to main road where buses or cabs go by? Is there any transportation that makes regular stops at this campground / beach and go into town or other beaches where if you are not on a tight schedule you can get back and forth ok? (Also would anyone know if campers here can have campfires, and if floatation devises like air mattresses are allowed in the water at the beaches? Can you legally sip margaritas or coronas on the beach?) Thanks.

There are taxis eagerly awaiting your every transportation need at the entrance to Cinnamon during most daylight hours. The campground is only a couple hundred yards (at most) from the taxi stand.

I would not walk to any other beach, personally. The road from Cinnamon to Trunk is very steep and twisting and I would consider it a dangerous hike.

Others may know of better ways to get around without going on the main road. I wouldn't have that info.

I can answer a few of your questions. From the campground to the main road is maybe a five minute walk. There are often taxis at Cinnamon, and you can hitch hike as well, so getting around shouldn't be too much of a problem...just keep in mind that those taxi rides can really add up. There is no form of transportation that makes regular stops at the beach.
You can legally drink on the beach, just make sure you don't bring any glass, which is not allowed on VINP beaches.
Hopefully someone else can answer the rest of your questions!

Scott: Here are the National Park rules: http://www.nps.gov/archive/viis/rules.htm. No ground fires, sorry.

Thank you for for helpful replies! Sounds like we will make it around just fine then. I had hoped maybe on the park trail system there was an interior hiking trail from Cinnamon to Trunk... Hopefully the island bus system stops and picks up at Cinnamon, however irregularily? 30 degrees in New Hampshire today, tomorrow by 8pm will be there sipping 100% agave tequila on the beach. Not bad. Can't wait.

Hey Scott

Not sure what you mean by the "island bus system" as no buses run past any beaches on the North Shore (Trunk, Cinnamon, Hawksnest, Maho, Francis etc) only taxi's. The buses run Centerline Road out to Coral Bay and then onto Salt Pond. Maybe you were referring to hitch hiking as our "island bus system" 🙂
