Hi! I'm arriving in St. Thomas by a cruise ship in late November. I'm choosing between Coki Beach or Trunk Bay in St. John. Any Suggestions?

Does any one of these have lockers to keep my valuebles?

Thanks!

It depends upon how much time you have ashore and how much get up and go you want to exert on vacation.

Coki is local so getting there, setting up, relaxing, etc. takes less time so you can spend more time enjoying yourself and not worry about getting back before you even arrive. Coki also offers Coral World aquarium and other extras.

Trunk has less tourist features but is beautiful. Getting there involves the ferry followed by a 10 minute taxi ride. Certainly not impossible and cruise passengers do it all the time. However, I have heard from some they would probably have done better by staying on STT, visiting Coki, doing some shopping and worrying less about 'getting there'.

Comes down to a personal decision as to what you want to do on your vacation.

Rina:

I vote for for Coki. It's close and it's beautiful (bring your snorkelling gear).

Having done the Cruise stop and St. John ferry to a beach excursion myself I found it to be too short for the beach and worrisome for getting back to the ship (before it leaves). Traffic in the late afternoon, getting back to the ship, could be heavy.

Next year come back to St. Thomas/St. John, spend a week and enjoy the many beatiful beaches.

Regards,

F.I.

Both beaches provide a wonderful day spent beachside. My personal preference would be Coki Beach. It's much more full of life, a true taste of the Virgin Islands. As mentioned above, you could also take advantage of a visit to Coral World. In addition, you would have time, after a good stay at the beach, to visit other island sights or go shopping if you like. Much less time is spent in transportation. I would recommend taking a taxi rather than a ship's organized tour. The ship tour is expensive and folks are shepherded around like cattle.

One thing that might make me avoid Coki is the number of cruise ships in port that day. Coki is not that big, and if there are a lot of ships, it will be crowded. I might then choose a beach on St. John. Trunk Bay also gets crowded with cruise passengers, but it is a much larger beach. Another alternative is to visit a different beach on St. John, such as Cinnamon or Hawksnest.

Whichever beach you choose, I guarantee you'll spend a lovely day.

I just returned from a cruise and we went on a tour of STT with Godfrey and it was great fun. Then he took everyone to choice of beach and we choose Sapphire and loved it. We did go to Coki and it looked very crowded.

Others on our ship went to Trunk Bay on their own. Their thoughts were that it was kind of expensive to pay for the transportation modes needed and once they got to Trunk they felt they didn't get ample time to spend there considering the cost of effort of getting over there.

Enjoy!
