I am going to be in St Croix in December on a cruise with my husband and children ages 4 and 7. I have not been to st croix with kids and do not want to take any of the ships tours. Will there be "trusted tours" at the port? should i prearrange a tour? we really want to kayak and snorkel or go on a small private boat/snorkel trip. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

thanks

Me, my husband and then 4yo son visited St. Croix via cruise ship in 2009. We were comfortable with driving in the VI's (we have stayed on St. John several times) so we rented a car (I believe it was Budget) from a place within walking distance of the pier in Frederiksted. We went to Cane Bay for beach time / snorkeling and then into Christiansted for lunch and some walking around. Cane Bay has a scuba shop on site (if you google cane bay st. Croix you will find their site) and they offer independent trips to Cane Bay from Frederiksted for cruise ship passengers.

Have you visited forums for cruise ships? They tend to have subforums for specific places and I've found recommendations / reviews for all sorts of tours that are not affiliated with the cruise line. Cruise Critic comes to mind.
