Hi all, I was checking flights and found one for $310 from DTW to STT but it connects through Newark with only a 59 minute layover on a Thursday at 8:15 in the morning. I've never been traveled through EWR but I figure it's probably a pretty big airport. Is 59 minutes enough time or should I pick another flight? Thanks for the help!

I assume that you're flying on Continental....both segments.

59 minutes "should" be enough time baring adverse weather conditions delaying your flight in Detroit.

If you're connecting on another airline you may have a problem since you'll need to connect in another terminal and pass through security again.

to go from one terminal to another in 59 minutes is about the minimum if you are not flying the first segment on Continental.

It is Continental for both segments.

As mentioned above, Continental has most of it's flights in one terminal. Just let the stewardess know that you have a connecting flight in less than an hour and ask that you be let out first if possible. I think you'll be able to make it. As for your bags..... that's a different ballgame. Then again thursdays are not a bad day to travel.

Goblues29:

You probably have a "worst case scenario".

I checked the flights from Detroit (DTW) to STT.......the Detroit flight uses an Embrier aircraft (commuter jet). They use Terminal "A" at Newark airport. Your St. Thomas flight uses Terminal "C".

Your connection time is 1 hour (8:15/9:15).

You will need to disembark in Terminal "A", exit the secure area, take the monorail to Terminal "C", go back through security (unless you're Elite this can take a while) and then to your gate. One hour is "pushing it".....especially if you're like me and both flights land and take off from the farthest (apart) gates possible. You should check with Continental to see if they have a different method of connecting terminals at Newark, thus avoiding the in and out of secure areas. (I fly out of Newark Airport, so I don't experience connection problems there.)

However, should you miss the EWR/STT flight......Continental will (probably, if space permits) put you on the EWR/San Juan (SJU) flight connecting with Cape Air to STT. You'll arrive much later, but you'll still get there.......baggage will be a concern, though.

btw, I noticed the DTW/EWR/SJU/STT flights were priced at $248. (round trip) mid week....but of course you spend most of the day in transit..

When are you going?

F.I.

Thanks everyone for all your help. It looks like I won't be picking that flight! Too risky! Luckily there are others that are almost as cheap and have better connecting times. F.I, I am going 4/23-5/1 which is much too far away!
