Coming down in 16 days, Is it better to bring your own cigars and cigarettes down with you or is it cheaper to buy them down there. ($5.50 a pack in NY) I know alcohol is cheap but unsure about this?

Thank you

Cigarettes here run about $2.75/pack; $17.95/carton...depending on brand.
Definitely no need to stock up in NY, rather stock up here (STT).
Enjoy!

Is that for major brands like marlboro?

On the same topic, my husband would love to find a good cigar shop on St. Thomas or St. John. He's not a cigarette smoker, but enjoys a good cigar while on vacation.

We'll be there next month.

Thanks!

Carole

I do know there is a nice cigar store in Havensight Mall across from the Scotia Bank front door.
Also when you leave the island, you can bring 5 cartons of cigs per person off the island tax free.

Liquorman, you'd be surprised at the price of cigs on the island. It's 50-60 bucks a carton in the NY/NJ area and only 15-18 bucks on the island. No taxes!!! You might as well stock up on your way back. And that's for name brands like Marlboro, Camel, Winston, etc. Good luck!

For cigar smokers, you could get some cubans in the BVI but it is considered contraband in the US so buyer beware.

The name of the shop in Havensight (it's actually considered Port of Sale area) is Tobacco Discounters. Very large selection of cigars and cigarettes and very nice/knowledgeable staff.

If you happen to catch a ride over to the BVI's, they have CUBAN cigars. I saw some for sale on Jost.

Actually.... that's what my husband would prefer... cuban cigars. I think we can get those at Pussers while we're on Virgin Gorda. Was hoping to find them in the USVI too.

Just remember to smoke them while in the BVI's and do not try to bring them back in to the US (you have to go back through Immigrations and I'm sure the captain would not be happy with you)

DR's are just as good.

People think Cubans cuz of the mystique around them. Ask Michael Moore or Robert Redford to bring some back from one of their fact finding trips.

/oops, but couldn't resist.

Actually people do bring back cuban cigars - they take the bands off.

Having spent many years in the customs side of importing....this is not something I would suggest even with the band removed.

Not a good recommendation.
