Does anyone know anything about the cottages by the sea?

This past April we had lunch right next door at Sandcastles on the Beach. Powder sand beach, crystal clear water. Great sunsets. This is the view from SOTB's restaurant - as you're looking at this view, Cottages is immediately to the left and its beach is a continuation of this one:

It's easy to find but there's really not too very much in F'Sted -a couple of good restaurants, though. Except for SOTB there's not much within easy walking distance. Try Trip Advisor for some reviews:

There are lots of photos posted up, too, with the reviews on TA. Be aware that not all of the pics are of Cottages - some posters included pictures of other locations on STX.

It's family owned and operated. Very basic, but most people think a good value. I would strongly suggest renting a car, as there is almost nothing within easy walking distance. As previous poster said, beautiful beach.

Cottages by the Sea is very rustic. But the rooms are being totally remodeled. We were down there last May and one of the rooms was completely gutted. If you are looking to relax this is the place. We typically would go for a swim before cooking breakfast and eating outside on the porch (gallery) overlooking the ocean. The owner and staff will make you feel like family.

We've always stayed out on east end, but having heard so many good things about Cottages we decided to ride out there and see what it was all about. VERY pleasantly surprised! We walked all around the property (which was kept immaculate--or very close to it). Beautiful beach with calm clear water. We were there the month of April and it was windy and the water was rough on the east end beaches. We sat out on a lounge chair for a few minutes while at Cottages just soaking up the sun and enjoying that calm blue water right in front of us.

We introduced ourselves to a maid who was cleaning two recently vacated cottages and she let us take a peek inside. One was the Crow's Nest-- a second story, one bedroom with small dining area, kitchenette, and nice large bathroom that looked right out over the water. The other was in the building just behind the Crows Nest and was a ground floor cottage, also very nice. Both had large televisions. I can't think of the maids name just now, she was SO nice and did a fantastic cleaning job on both cottages. Wish I had her here at my home... The feeling we got at Cottages was that they are VERY homey and comfortable, but not fancy. If you're looking for 4 star you will not be happy here. We usually stay in a very nice three bedroom condo out on east end, but there was something that really appealed to us about Cottages by the Sea. We ended up driving back out to walk around again just to make sure our first impression was what we thought. I could definately see us staying there. Several families and couples lounging around the beach seemed to be enjoying the peace and quiet. We spoke to a honeymoon couple who were staying in the Commodore's cottage (I think it was called) and both just raved about how much they were enjoying being there. Of course they WERE on their honeymoon, ha! Very cute couple.

We also greatly enjoyed eating at Turtles Deli just up the road from Cottages. Wonderful, laid back atmosphere. Inside deli with some of the most delicious sandwiches I've ever eaten, and outside seating overlooking that blue, blue water. We drove from the east end back out to Turtles three times to eat and sit looking at the peaceful beach scene. Wish I was there right now.

bobb, you will love Cottages. Very nice place. Best beach. Super clean rooms. Most rooms recently remodeled in very cute, even finky styling. We have stayed there twice (in 3 different rooms, all unique and very nice) and now own a home on the island but still use their beach because we are so comfortable there. Do get a car . . . but I think that would be recommended no matter where you would stay on STX. Enjoy!
