I know that the gas stations (make that one gas station now) only take cash. What about most restaurants and the grocery stores? We go on Oct 1 for a week so trying to estimate how much cash I should carry.

Most restaurants and grocery stores that we go to take credit cards. Starfish market definitely takes them. You may want to call your credit card company before going to the USVI and let them know your vacation dates. It will help to avoid a little inconvenience while vacationing. Cash is good for taxi's and the vendors at Trunk and Cinnamon things like that. If you will be traveling the island by taxi, definitely bring cash.

snorkelgirl,

Thanks much. That definately helps. We are renting a jeep so won't be using taxis (unless we can't get gas).

Glad to hear that markets and restaurants take plastic.

And if you have an ATM card, bring that, as then you won't have to travel with as much cash. Also, the stores and restaurants actually prefer cash to cards, due to the vendor charge that they are charged (usually about 1.5%) when you use it.
