Should I be concerned with all those creepy crawlers that I have read about in other reviews? We will be staying in a condo and I would like to know what will be greeting us. Also, I have read about the crime, how bad is it? What are some safety rules? I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks

Willcapehart,

Have been coming to St. John for years, 1st time was in 1978, you have no idea how things have changed...

The only time a creepy crawler was an issue was once at Maho Bay when my wife was stung by a scorpion, turns out the ones at least at that time on St. John were not poisonous, at least to the point of killing you...... She thought she was going to die for a while........

The biggest problem we have ever had is "no seeums" and once in a while a cock roach or two.

Crime, that is everywhere you go, no different on the V.I. having said that, I have never observed any in all of my visits, have read and heard the stories but never have obs. any, my experience has been that the residents of St. John are a warm and friendly people who have the same concerns and challenges we all face at one time or another.

The great thing is that you can say "Good Morning" or Good Afternoon" and they will return it with a smile and friendly wave for face.

I never tire of the residents of the island.

Have a great trip, and check your shoes before you put them on in the morning...........

Maybe we are just lucky but in the 6 years of going to STJ we've never had any problems w/ Creepy Crawlers, there's tons of small lizards hanging out at the villa and apparently they eat all the other bugs because we've never seen any. An occasional dead spider, a few bees hanging on the flowers but that's about it.

As for crime......practice what you do at home. It's no different than your hometown. If you ask for trouble you'll probably get it.

STJ locals are great people, always happy, very nice and friendly. Good Morning, Good Afternoon, Good Night goes a long way.

Smile and enjoy your trip!

The only crime we ever witnessed was when we would have the villa doors open to enjoy the view of Fish Bay and these cute little birds would fly in and steal food off our table. Cute the first time, not so much after that. As far as bugs, we didn't notice any, except little itty bitty ants (that you can only see with 20/20 vision) if you kept any crumbs or cans of soda laying about.
