I have read questions on this forum before, but I just registered today and this is my first post - so be nice. We will be on a cruise docking at Crown Point in a few weeks. I have read that Emerald Beach is very close, less than a mile. If true, is it walkable? If walking is not recommended, what is the best way to get there? I have been to St. Thomas quite a few times, but this is only the third time docking at Crown Point. We do not have any issues with public transportation if it is doable. When time is not an issue we often walk or use public transportation on our island visits.

Thanks for any advice and information that is offered.

Suggest that you take a taxi.

However, you can get to Magens Beach, Coki Beach & Sapphire Beach via taxi also.

It is walkable from Crown Bay to Emerald beach resort - Lindberg Bay - about 20 min. with a hill involved if you go left leaving the port area through an Industrial section of STT and past the power plant -- and about 25 min if you go right and out to the main road to the airport - this way is flatter and mostly sidewalk. Both routes are a hot walk and you will be glad to jump in the water when you get there. It is less than 5 min by taxi.

While I've driven both ways I don't know if I'd walk those routes. And you'll probably be carrying your beach bag, etc.

Taxi fare is $5 from Crown Bay to the airport (Emerald Beach is next to the airport)....ask to be dropped off at one of the hotels there.

Besides you're on vacation........why waste the time walking.

The hotels at the beach have always been very accommodating to us.....just order a drink and or food there.

You might consider spending the day at Honeymoon Beach. Walk across the street from your cruise ship terminal, into Crown Bay Marina, and take the Water Island ferry (schedule is posted on vinow.com under the link "Ferry Schedule". There is a "Colors of Paradise TV" video about it on this web site vinow.com - click under the link "Extras" at the top of this web site.

Also, if you click on the cruise ship schedule, pick a day where there will be a ship coming into Crown Bay/Monsanto Terminal, pop up on our Flamingo Point web cam and you can see where the cruise ship will enter the channel and into the port where you'll be arriving.

You can get to the web cam via flamingopointusvi.viewnetcam.com.

Then, user name is flamingo and the password is pointusvi (all lower case letters). Click on the tab entitled "Single" and click on the preset choices.

We are arriving on the Oasis of the Seas. I saw the schedule for the Water Island ferry has an 8 am and a 10:30 am scheduled trip. We arrive at 9 am. With the number of passengers arriving in Crown Point, do they ever add additional trips between these times?

The ferry crossing takes 15 minutes, so when the number of passengers exceeds the approx. 27 pass. limit the ferry just makes an additional rotation. Don't worry everyone will be transported, maybe just a half hour later than planned. Remember, once you set foot on the VI you are on "island time".

Water island is a fun and different idea...make sure you bring cash as the rum shack over there doesn't take credit cards [but they do pour great drinks!]

PS--It's Crown BAY 😉

well that didn't happen!

We got to the dock about 10 minutes before it returned from its noon time run (Oasis was late getting into port). We were 5 people and 10 additional people showed up about 5 minutes after it returned and the captain insisted the next run was at 2 or 2:30 ( I forget what the schedule said). He was only going to run by the ferry schedule.

We were disappointed but found a taxi to Emerald Beach and it was a gorgeous place...no disappointment there!

You may have missunderstood my comment. You didn't show up for the scheduled 12noon run so regardless of the number of passengers they had at 12noon that doesn't obligate an additional, off schedule run, when you show up at 12:20pm. Be fair with your comments. YOU were not ready to go at the time of the 12noon scheduled trip.

Emerald Beach Resort St. Thomas at Lindberg Bay with its white sand beach is a perfect place for cruise ship passenges to spend the day. I trust that ypu had a most enjoyable day.

With all due respect I also read and interpreted your post as poster 116747 did so understand the angst. Best not to make excuses for a faux pas but just simply apologize and go from there. Cheers!

Unlike many things in the USVI that are on "island time", the Water Island ferry - and other ferries - do run ON SCHEDULE. Many local residents who are on their way to/from work, meetings, appointments and children on their way to/from school all depend on the ferry to run on time. That said, I am surprised the Captain didn't offer to do a "Special Run" but it does depend on if the Captain is available and he doesn't have other commitments of his time. Special Runs, on a case by case basis, are slightly more $ than the usual one-way fare but many times the Captain can accomodate a Special Run and provide transport outside of the scheduled times. Glad to hear you enjoyed Emerald Beach. If you find yourself visiting the USVI/STT again, please do check out WI/Honeymoon Beach.
