Hello All,

I am planning my second trip back to VI in April. We will be sailing in the BVI's for most of the trip but are planning to stay at the Marriott at Frenchman's for a couple of nights on either end. I am hoping someone there can give me some current info. First, is there currently construction?? Second, I have seen people mention a ferry from there back to Charlotte Amalie, the Marriott doesn't have any information on this. Does it still exist?? Does anyone know costs, how frequent, or if there is a website with info?? Lastly I am planning to catch the 8:30 am ferry from CA to Tortola on Thursday 04/21, how early do I need to leave the hotel in taxi??
Can't wait to get back there and show everything to my husband- it will be his first time.

Good morning--

Currently there is no construction at Marriott--the property is closing in May for a major renovation expected to last into October.

There is a water taxi that runs from the ferry dock at Frenchman's Reef every hour on the half hour from 8:30 to 4:30, and returns from town every hour on the hour from 9 to 5. The ferry does not run on Sundays.

Your cab trip to downtown is all based on what the ship schedule looks like as if Havensight is busy with early ships it'll take some time, but you're probably leaving early enough for that not to be an issue. To catch the 8:30 I'd give yourself 35-45 minutes just to be safe.

We will be at Frenchman's Reef from April 24 to May 1st. Should we be concerned about the start of renovation? We're staying in the new condos...
Looking for advice on dive sites. First time in St. Thomas. For reference we have dove; St. Kitts (not great), Turks & Caicos (like), St. Lucia (like), Curacao (like - gotta luv current), Florida Keys (luke warm), Monterrey Bay (nope)and Cozumel (okay).
Also, traveling with friends and looking for a great local hang out. any comments would be greatly appreciated.

If you're staying in the condos, then you are at Frenchman's Cove, not Frenchman's Reef...so you won't be affected at all. Call up Red Hook Dive Center to ask them what their big dive sites are as they are one of the most reputable shops on island.
