Looking to try/visit some new spots in a month on St John. Anyone snorkeled Denis Bay/Perkins Cay?
Thanks, Rick

We visited Denis for the first time on our last trip in early December. It became our new favorite (until we visited Salomon the next day).
We really like Denis and the snorkel around Perkins. There was a torential rainstorm the day before we visited Denis and as a result the water was a bit cloudy but the underwater views were still wonderful. The tide was such that we had an easy entry at the tall rocks near Perkins(to the left as viewed from the beach) and we snorkeled clockwise around the Cay. The exit from the water was not so easy. The water was very shallow above the small rocks to the right of Perkins (as viewed from the beach) We had the beach all to ourselves for most of the day and at most there were us and only two other couples enjoying the beach.

The hike down and back up was easy. The path is a bit narrow in spots but we were able to haul chairs and a small cooler with us without problem. Stay on the trail and the beach as it is private property beyond the beach.

We walked the beach but did not snorkel around the old dock piers.

Toes--small island I guess--we've rented Bayview for our June trip and I see you have a couple pics of it. How did you enjoy the property? Let us down easy if it wasn't stellar. R

We loved it. It was secluded enough to be private, great location, you can walk to the smoothie shack, magnificent views and we loved the price. If you are more than one couple I will warn that the downstairs bedroom was not what I would want to stay in for a week on the island. The views from there are of the garden only and the windows are limited so it is not as airy as the upstairs bedroom. While we were there we had some HEAVY, blowing, rains and we had to use towels that were provided to soak up the rain that blew in through the shutters. Other than that we loved it. You'll find that the owner is a huge music lover and the CD and DVD collection is more than adequate. There are two things that could use some attention, the fridge has seen better days but works well and the shower could use some work.

Hey--appreciate all the info. As you might expect, we're starting to get fired up for the trip. I always need to guard against getting too regimented/planned and just let it happen. Can't wait to get back to island time--for a while at least. R

Since your staying at Bayview you will find that Francis and Maho are SO convenient, quick and easy to get to. We made Francis our new champagne sunset beach. And of course Skinny's is right down the hill.
