Augie and Celia are correct. 18 is the legal drinking age...although you may well find much younger people imbibing...in my nine years here, I've yet to see a bartender ask for ID...and I'd swear I was sitting next to 14 year olds in some places!

That's right Marty. We were at a place (won't name names) and we met 3 young guys that we ended up running into almost everywhere we went in St. Thomas. They told us that 2 of them were 15 and one was 17.

My son was carded on STJ in almost all bars we went to in Jan. he is 21 but looks 14. Last year my younger son and his cousin were carded at woodys my son being 18 was allowed to drink and his cousin was not he was 17 and would turn 18 in 2 weeks.

My lovely and mature looking 16 year old daughter was with me last April. At several places, bartenders would offer her a drink, but then look to me for permission (which I did not grant). I thought they were very respectful. That being said, know that if your 16 years old are out and about without you, they will no doubt be served if they try.

I know what you mean about offering teens a drink at the bar. We were in Cancun years back and they gave us a free 'round' of tequila. My daughter was 14 back then. We were floored. Well, she is 20 now, and hopefully acts mature and responsible . I know they drink at college, I just hope they are level headed about the whole thing. I hope they fall back on the things we tried to teach them. Ughhhhhh what parents have to go threw!

My daughter was 18 on our visit this past June. We did allow her to have a few drinks over the course of the week because not only was it legal but she is a responsible girl and was with us. Also, we were celebrating her graduation. She was never id'd and never had more than one. She doesn't really care for alcohol but did really like some of the island rum drinks. Especially the painkillers at Soggy Dollar. She loved those! I do remember when she was also 14 and in Mexico they were also pushing alchohol on her. She'd actually ask for a virgin drink and they would still hook it up! Unbelievable!
