We have two groups arriving St. Thomas on July 4th, a little over an hour apart. Can someone tell me how long it takes to drive from the airport to Frenchman's Reef Mariott in Charlotte Amalie? We're trying to figure out if it's worth it for the first group to run into town vs. wait at the airport for the second group.

Thanks!

John

Run into town to do what? Shop? By the time they get their luggage, your plane will be a few minutes later. It takes them about 20 minutes to a half hour to get the luggage on the belt. Thay could just wait for you at the hotel. They could wait at the airport and you all can travel to the hotel together. To go to town and return would be sort of fruitless.

Waiting at the airport was the direction our thinking was going . . . there was a dissenter or two in the first group . . . 🙂

Thanks!

seems no matter where you go in STT it takes 15-20 minutes. not a straight road on the island.

Hi John T,

I agree with RonUSVI and DC, you really don't have enough time to drive to town.

That said, if the second flight is delayed or (miracle of miracles) you get your baggage early and you find that you need to kill some time, you can drive or take a taxi to the Island Beachcomber Hotel and have a drink and/or grab a quick bite to eat.

The Island Beachcomber Hotel is less than five minutes away from the airport. It has a quaint open air restaurant and bar that is situated directly on a very pretty beach (Lindberg). The food is passably good and reasonably priced and the tropical ambiance is great. It would be a nice way to kick off your vacation while you are waiting.

You will want to contact the hotel to check the hours of the bar and restaurant. Here is a link to their website:

Good luck and have a great trip :)!
