Hi, I will be staying in St. John early next year and am looking for some return transportation advice. There is an 8:10am flight that leaves STT for Miami on the Saturday we are returning and since we are staying in St. John, I was wondering if the 6am ferry from Cruz Bay to Red Hook followed by the taxi to STT would get us there in time? How long does that typically take at that time in the morning? Would we be better off staying in St. Thomas our final night so we can catch the 8:10am flight or would we be fine staying in St. John if we catch the first ferry to Red Hook at 6am?

Any help would be greatly appreciated before we book our flights.

Stay in STT the night before. You need to be at airport at least 1 1/2 hrs. prior to flight. You can check overnight options at the Beachcomber or Best Western which are very close to airport.
Sometimes ferries are late leaving, sometimes there are road projects that create detours. Play it safe.

Nope - stay the night before on STT. I have taken the 6am from STJ and then taxied to the airport and once did not arrive until 7:20am - if that happens to you you are not flying that day.

I concur with all before, just too early to consider STJ to STT in the morning. Stay at one of the Best Western hotels right at the airport and make it easy on yourself.

If you're checking baggage you need to be there 2 hours in advance...I've heard horror stories of people with checked bags not being able to board because they weren't there 2 hours ahead of time (I'm taking 1 hour and 55 minutes before and they weren't allowed on the plane).

A couple weeks ago it took us over an hour to get through customs and security, and that was on a Thursday in low season, not a Saturday in high season.

And as of October 1st 2015 if you are flying AA you are now being asked to be there 3 hours prior and the check in desk (if you need to check luggage and/or receive a boarding pass) is closing 90 minutes prior (6:40am for a 8:15am flight) ... http://newsofstjohn.com/2015/09/22/more-time-at-the-airport-may-be-in-your-future/

My friend and her boyfriend were traveling back to states and were 5 minutes late and weren't allowed on their flight. Be sure to get their on time. Coming from STJ for an early flight on AA?
Spend the night as you'll never make it taking the ferry in morning.
Beachcomber Hotel is very close to airport.
