I am looking g for any information on the Eastwind condos. I have been to the st. thomas before and I am unfamiliar with the condos. It says there located on vessup bay. I won't be renting the condo but my family is looking at it to rent. Is the area safe? Are the condos clean and well taken care of? Please any info will help me pass on my opinion to my family members looking at this condo.

We've stayed there a number of times since 1995 but not for the last 3yrs. The condo has always been clean when we arrived. It's a one bedroom one bath, with a small but well equipped kitchen a nice living room dining area and has a patio that looks out on a lush landscape. If you're looking for luxury you should look elsewhere but if you want a place to rest your head cook some meals and just relax Eastwind can't be bet. It's a small complex, maybe 24 units on two floors. The residents all seemed very nice. The owners which come down and stay there periodically live in Massachsetts and couldn't be nicer.
As far as safety we never felt unsafe there.
It's located a couple of thousand feet from Vessups bay beach which you can't see from the condo and is very close to a great restaurant Latitude 18.
We can't wait to get back there.
If you want more info let me know.

bill,
thank you so much for the info. As I said the condo is for my grandmother and she's a simple lady but I just want her to be safe and best of all to have a good stress free time. Thanks for calming my nerves.

Hi, I have also stayed there and I would not recommend it for anyone who has any trouble walking distances over bad roads. It has no pool and the beach is about 1/2 to 1/3 mile maybe. I rented from the folks in Ma. and yes they are very nice. However, when we got there the condo was FILTHY. The cleaning lady never came to take the laundry after the last renters or clean the place. I had to change the sheets, go to the laundry to wash some towels, and buy bleach and paper towels and and a scrubby to clean the place myself! When I informed the owners about what was going on they said sorry and didn't even offer to refund my cleaning fee! Nice but not that nice. I was not too happy about spending my first day doing laundry and scrubbing toilets, know what I mean. The cleaning lady never did come and I wasn't about to spend MORE $ doing all the laundry. We ended up having to put the dirty laundry into the closet. By the end of the trip that laundry was really starting to stink. I again tried to hint to the owners when I sent back the key that I should at least get the fee returned to me but they never offered it up. Beware...they may have found someone else but, to not return the fee and return the $ for the bleach and laundry....not for me thank you. Oh and there was a HUGE roach that we just could not seem to catch and kill living in the silverware drawer. LOL! Yuck.

Wow that's terrible. Things sound like they have changed concerning cleaning. In all the times staying there only once was the cleaning people still there when we arrived.
Thanks for posting Leticia. This is something I we don't want to deal with on our next visit to St. Thomas.
The huge roach was a Palmetto bug. The creepy things can fly!! I never saw one at Eastwind but have in other accommodations.

Ya, this was in 2004 or 2003. I can't remember exactly but it was bad. I would rather spend the $100.00-$120.00 a night and stay at Sapphire any day. At least there is the laundry, pool, access to the $1 taxi and a nice beach. I have always had good luck with the owners and condos there. I was really freaked out by that extra large, super fast bug. If it had taken flight I think I would have died! LOL. I was really happy when I found a condo so cheap but, boy did I pay for it when I got there. The furniture was getting pretty nasty too. Very stained and kinda gritty when you sat down on it. Like I said...things may have changed. As far as I am concerned, I would never take the chance on that one again. Well...maybe if they had reimbursed me for the cost of supplies and payed me back the fee. Hell ...they should have, cause that shower went from filthy dirty to something you could eat off of. I don't expect the Ritz but I do expect CLEAN. Ya know?

bill,
I know if you go to www.condodelmar.com these condos are very nice and taken care of. I believe that they are $135 a night, but are very very nice.

Hi again, Yes Condo Del Mar is owned by a very nice and reliable woman named Rita. We rented from her in Oct. She was booked for the week we wanted but set us up in another condo in the next level above the one she has. It was VERY clean and well kept. I would rent from her again and will very soon I am sure. The only reason I am not staying with her this May is because the other gals I am going with wanted to be right on the beach. We are staying with Peter R. Here are some of the sites I use for rentals on island. OH I always go low season so when I drop rates that I have paid it is for that time. I am an older student with kids so the low season sounds great to me when you are paying for 4 and can't miss classes. Greatrentals.com
vrbo.com
condodelmar.com
lucysjewel is another condo but I cant seem to find my link for that one. I have other sites that I like to search so let me know if you want more. There is a 1 bedroom condo in a complex near the Ritz with a small pool I think sleeps 5 for $800.00 a week also. On the H2O but coral beach. Very private looking. Glad to help. Leticia

Thanks Chrisss, live and learn. 🙂 Sorry for the bad advice but we've always enjoyed our stay at Eastwind. We will consider condodelmar for our next visit. It looks great.
I would go with Sapphire for your grandma at this point.
Again, sorry for the bad advice. 🙁

Bill, I just wanted to say , your advice is not bad just different experiences that's all. You have had no trouble with your visits to Eastwind and maybe your advise is better than mine. I myself have only been there on the one occasion and yes it was not good. You have been there more times than I so...maybe my experience was a one time thing? I also don't know his Gma. She could be very young and have no trouble w/ the road. Who knows? I felt badly when I saw your last post. So, no sad faces, I could be the bad advice giver, lol!
