My girlfriend and I have booked a flight to STT and plan to head to STJ to explore the island, relax, and snorkel various locations. I am trying to find a budget minded place to stay for the week and we are pretty flexible with accomodation styles or sharing. A rental car for a few days or duration is another thing that we need to pursue..Looks like right now the best price i can find is through Avis in STT for $250/7days - any other ideas?

We wouldn't mind bartering skills such as spanish translation, computer repair/configuration, web design, computer tutoring, pet/house sitting, cooking, cleaning.

Thanks in advance.

-Pete

Hi--Not sure what your budget is but take a look at Water Island. Reasonable housing with golf carts so you do not need to rent a car. Water Island is beautiful vacation spot. http://www.slowmocean.com

Thanks for the replies so far but I am looking to be in St. John ideally and nearby to the best snorkeling in the area.

Anybody else have thoughts?

Thanks!

L&L car rental on StJ (www.bookajeep.com) will allow 3 day reservations for $70/day off season.

Your best bet is going to check with VRBO.com - I don't want to burst your bubble but coming to one of the world's more exotic and expensive islands in high season for 'economy lodging' seems off base. What is 'economical' to you? St John is mostly private homes and a few *VERY* expensive hotels [Westin and Caneel Bay]. With respect to the rental car, you can check First Rental Car 340-775-8328, Discount 340-777-9949, and Zip car rental at 340-715-1501. Keep in mind you would be renting a car in St Thomas, then ferrying it over to St John for the week--the rates for St John's jeeps are higher than the STT rates.
