Hello, my fiance and I are trying to plan our wedding in St Thomas planned for June 2012.

We are looking to travel from Puerto Rico to St Thomas via ferry and I am having trouble locating a timetable for the ferries. Does anyone know where I can find this?

Basically we are looking to travel PR to USVI on 22nd May 2012 and
return from USVI to PR on 3rd August. We are flexible on dates.

Any help would be appreciated. I am in the UK so an email address for the ferry company would be useful as calling from here will be pricey.

Thanks

Christina

There is no regular ferry service between PR and St Thomas. If you go the Quick Links above right and scroll down to the ferry link you'll find a telephone number to call for information on that service at the bottom of the page (no email given) but, again, it's not a regular service and the main/only regular transportation between the two islands is by air.

Plus, a ferry, because of distance, would be no cheaper (or not much) than flying.

The ferry from VI to PR is MUCH cheaper than flying. I'm taking the ferry tomorrow (Thanksgiving). When I priced airfare for the holiday, it was $200 ONE WAY vs $200 RT that I paid in September. The ferry is $125 RT, but goes into Fajardo.

Transportation Services of St John offers the ferry service several times a year, usually in conjuction with a holiday. It's mainly for people who want to do major shopping in PR and bring their goods home with them. The ferry used to leave from the VI, drop off VI passengers, pick up PR passengers, go to the VI, go back to PR for the VI passengers, and then bring the PR passengers back. They don't run the service like that any more.

There used to be greater demand for trips to PR by ferry, but I think with KMart, Home Depot, PriceSmart, etc, there's less of a need for VI residents to go to PR. Also, many people from PR take cruises which often stop in STT, so there's less demand from PR.

Hi,
You may want to check with this co. Their flights often were less in the past but haven't looked lately.

Starting December 12th Jet Blue is flying San Juan to St Thomas for as low as $78 round trip - great news for those of us who live here and for visitors alike 🙂
