I read with alarm the story in the VI Daily News about potential cutbacks in service or complete loss of service of ferries from STT to STJ beginning as early as next week.

My wife and I will be first-time visitors to STJ (and the USVI) soon. What are the other options and approximate costs for getting to STJ from STT? We have already purchased airfare, villa rental, etc, so it would be hard to swap to another destination at this point.

Do you plan on renting a car? If so, take one of the car ferries. The article you reference to is for "pasenger" vessels only.

Ferry Service Still in Jeopardy

I very much doubt that any cessation of service will happen. The ferry service operators met with the Governor in recent days and apparently had amicable discussions about mutual problems. The current Governor is the first of his predecessors over many years to demand accountability from those who receive public funding of any kind. This too shall pass and I doubt that there will be any interruption of regular ferry services. Cheers!

I must agree with STT. After living here a while you learn not to get too excited about things that MIGHT happen, either good or bad.
