Lots of "getting to the Baths" questions. Don't rule out the public ferry. Tuesday and Thursday you can go from Red Hook, STT and from Cruz Bay, STJ.....

We went from Charlotte Amalie (on a Thursday)- non-stop to Baths - $60 round trip for adult and $40 round trip for child. Spend the day at the Baths and come back in the afternoon. We went on Speedy's Delight - rode on the top deck (outside). No crowds....no rush. Taxi guy on Virgin Gorda was waiting for us (Speedy's Taxi service) to arrive and took us to Baths, then arranged to pick us up. Charge was $4 per person, round trip. There's a restaurant and bar at the baths - with a swimming pool. Really nice - nothing cheesy.

Left at 8:45am from Charlotte Amalie and returned from Virgin Gorda between 2:45pm and 3pm - getting back to Charlotte Amalie around 4:30 - just in time to go get dinner. Ride is 1.5 hrs.

Fantastic Day - and we explored The Baths at our own pace - and swam in Devil's Bay at the end.

Good site for photos and quick summary of Baths exploration. http://www.bareboatsbvi.com/virgin_gorda_the_baths.html

Last time I visited the Baths I took an all day charter on Limnos cruise. It was great fun. They head to Virgin Gorda from STT and STJ then on the return they stop off at Norman Island for some snorkeling and lunch on the boat.
Lots of rum punch and beverages!!! It's a good time and runs about $98 per person....

bluwater-

Did the speedy ferry stop at St John?
I thought only InterIsland Ferry stopped there on the way to VG, but only on Thursday and Sunday.

thanks in advance

HI Beth.

No, Speedy's did not stop at STJ - Speedy's was non-stop from Charlotte Amalie, STT to Virgin Gorda. You are correct about Interisland - and the days.

Ok...I'm about a week out for our trip and I'm trying to put my little mind around a whole lotta information...

First and foremost (no laughing) WHERE exactly are the Bath's located??? I'm trying to decided on a day trip and wondering if we should do this (pay the big price for 4 - 2 adults/2 18 yr old boys) or take the ferry as Blu suggested and spend the day?

We will have a car and 8 days to explore and plan to go to St. Johns and do some snorkeling.

Recommendations?

There is also a ferry, on Saturday, that goes to Tortola, spends 4 hours there and then heads to Virgin Gorda for the Baths in the afternoon. For those who are really hunkering to "see" Tortola, this might fit the bill. Frankly, I wouldn't go that route but there are those who really want to take in both islands. To answer your question, The Baths are on Virgin Gorda and are huge bolders left from volcanic activity with small pools and grottos. If you follow the path thru the Baths and head to Devil's Bay (a bit of a hike but worth it) you'll have the same scenery and no crowds. You might also want to check the cruise ship schedule for Tortola since the Baths are the most popular excursion that thay offer unless you like sharing your space with lots of other folks!

My recommendation is Captain Nautica (www.captainnautica.com) for a trip from either STT or STJ to The Baths.

As a longtime STT resident, and having taken visiting friends and family on this trip, it's simply terrific. They really do a great job and not only do you spend a more time at the Baths on Virgin Gorda than most other tours but you get to snorkel at "The Indians" off Norman Island which is awesome.

Of course each to his own but Captain Nautica trips have always been close to my heart. Check out the website! Cheers and hope tihs helps!
