How long would a ferry take from St John to Puerto Rico? Would it be even worth travelling to Puerto Rico while our stay on STJ?
We have already booked a day trip to BVI but not sure about Puerto Rico... Any suggestions?

The ferry to PR used to go from STT to PR on Friday, and from PR to STT on Sunday. I don't know what the current schedule is but you can call and ask: (340) 776-6282. It takes a couple of hours through very choppy water.

The schedule had changed to weekly, Saturday round trip, leaving PR at 8am and returning from STT at 5pm.

It isn't running right now, expected to start up again in Mid-October. This is dependent on demand.

If they keep that same schedule it doesn't make a day trip from STT/STJ possible.

I know this is your first trip, so I wanted to offer you some advice everyone gave me about this time last year when I was getting ready for my first trip: Don't overdo it. It seems like a great idea since you're down there anyway to try to pack in all these "day trips," but the second you put your foot on the Cruz Bay ferry dock, you'll mostly realize that is not what St. John is about. We did go to Jost for a day (by the ferry), but we never even left St. John to go to St. Thomas except to catch the plane home. Just put your cell phone and watch in a drawer, find a good book and a great beach and have a good week.

That being said, my plan is eventually to fly into Puerto Rico for a few days and then continue on to St. John for a while. I'd like to check Puerto Rico out someday, because I do think I'd love it, but it'll have to be either an add-on to a trip or its own trip because when I go to St. John, I only get seven days and I just don't want to go somewhere else.

I totally see what you are saying Lulu and thank you for your advice! I am sure we won't get enough of STJ as-is 🙂

Thank you everyone! 🙂

You won't. We had all these grand plans, but just hanging out on the beach and at the villa always wins out. This year, we aren't doing any planning besides renting a house and a car. It'll fall into place when we get there.
