My husband and I are planning our first trip to the islands for sometime next Feb/March. We will be staying a week, most likely on STT. I have 2 questions that hopefully someone can answer for me:
1. What is a reasonable amount to figure for food cost during the week considering we will eat most meals out?
2. Several people have told me we will get bored staying a week....what are your thoughts on this?

STT resident: To me the timeshare book and the websites of the offered resorts we can use just didn't seem to be as nice or offer as many ammenities as the ones on St Croix. However, I could be totally wrong, that is why I requested some opinions of you fine folks! 😀

Tom B: some of the other sites I have checked have not given such high reviews to the Elysian due to bad service, unclean rooms and not well maintaned rooms. To me though is looked pretty decent. What are your thoughts on this. I mean we basically will be sleeping and not spending alot of time in the room, but we want something that is at least comfortable to stay in with out giving us the heebie jeebies!! =]

Thanks!

our room was clean
the ac worked great (really only complaint - it worked to good)
we had what they called a studio, but was a large hotel room
It did have frig and micro wave, but not cook top
we keep wine and chesse and snacks in the room with no ants
AND THAT IS PRETTY AMAZING IN THE CARIBBEAN
Grounds were well keep
they had a guest computer in the lobby for internet
pool was so so
beach was raked and free of trash
not very good for snorkeling, but a great place to chill
shade and sun
two great places to eat on site. Roberts and Bonnies
(Bonnies is no longer there and I do not know anything about the new place)
The resort is next door to the Ritz Carlton which has some real nice pools for their guest
Which we used on occasion... ;)My daddy always said - act like you know what you are doing and no one will stop you 😉

Here again the key is location and for timeshares on STT - It don't get any better

I would return there no problem.

It was fine for us.
Here again remember you are going to the caribbean, which is in the tropics.
clean does have a different meaning

I stay at Bluebeard's Beach Club each year and have also stayed at the Elysian twice in the past. My personal preference is Bluebeard's Beach Club, but I understand that my vacation wishes are not the same as others'. My avatar is my view from my lounge chair on Limetree Beach at Bluebeard's Beach Club.

Bluebeard's Beach Club is small, only 74 units in seven three-story buildings, offering studios and loft studios with one bathroom, and one-bedroom units with one and a half bathrooms. Each room has a kitchenette. All have terraces facing the sea, and the walk to the beach is at most 150 feet. There is a pool with a pool bar open daily and serving lunches and a restaurant for breakfast and dinner. A convenience store is also located on premises. The Elysian rooms are also very nice with many different configurations, from a hotel room to two-bedroom condo with a loft. What room you would have would depend upon your exchange. Some may have minimal kitchen facilities and other have complete kitchens.

One thing among many that I love about Bluebeard's Beach Club is the privacy. Unlike the Elysian, there's nothing else around it. The Elysian is larger and has large Condos on either side of it. There are other condos and the St. Thomas Yacht Club further down on the same bay. At Bluebeard's Beach Club there are some homes up in the hills above, but they are completely unobtrusive.

I also prefer the beach at Bluebeard's. It is wide open to the Caribbean Sea. Very early in the morning the cruise ships make U-turns right in front of the resort. Under the right conditions you can see St. Croix quite clearly. It's great fun to watch all the boats of all kinds pass by out in the Sea. The water has gentle rolls and there is enough to see snorkeling on either side of the bay to keep it interesting. Very few people are on the beach and I often find we are the only ones on the beach. The beach at the Elysian is beautiful also, with lovely trees spread throughout the beach, allowing for shade or sun. However, it has a different feel. The bay is filled with moored boats. The water is calm with a sandy bottom, and there is also a little snorkeling there along the eastern side.

The Elysian is closer to Red Hook and the east end beaches, but further away from downtown and the other places of interest mid-island. Bluebeard's Beach Club is pretty centrally located, making it equally accessible to the East End and to downtown, to many of St. Thomas's beaches, restaurants and other attractions.

I'd stay at either in a heartbeat, but for me Bluebeard's Beach Club better provides the kind of vacation I seek.

I have never stayed at Magen's Point or on St. Croix (yet, that is.)

You have to go to Duffy's for the fiji wings. They're unbelievable, -plus there's a "pour your own" bar across the parking lot.

Gerie - great write up
We have always been East Enders (not taking anybody's name in vain)

Sounds like they have all the info they need

So what is it?
BlueBeards BEACH Club
Elysian
or
the other island

* Remember not all Blue Beard Time Shares are the "Beach Club"

Tom, as I was typing that long post the original poster posted a post in a new thread saying friends plan to join them and they are now looking for a condo that sleeps 8. If I'd just kept my hands off the keys for a little while longer I could have saved myself all that typing. *-)

You're right, there are two timeshare resorts that have Bluebeard's in the name. The one they would be offered would depend on whether they were exchanging through RCI or Interval Int'l. Bluebeard's Beach Club uses Interval Int'l. and Bluebeard's Castle exchanges through RCI. The OP didn't specify.

Gerie - It isn't set in stone that people are joining us....I am still researching so the info is much appreciated! The timeshare is thru RCI so it would be the castle.

Well, then, in the famous last words of Emily Litella, of SNL fame.........

Never mind. :$)

However, if anyone is interested in my comparison of the Elysian Beach Resort and Bluebeard's Beach Club, it's there for your enjoyment.

mahojim: The "pour your own" bar (Poor Man's Bar/The Warehouse) is no longer there. Guess it didn't fit in to the 'new" Red Hook!!! Cheers!

Thanks for the 'heads-up' about the 'Poor Man's Bar'. One of my favorites on STT is still Duffy's, but we arrive saturday the 19th, there's a full moon the 20th, and their website states that they have their fullmoon party the friday closest to the event. Would that be friday the 18th, I'm guessing? We're staying in Coral Bay on STJ, and have a limited amount of places to try aside from Miss Lucy's, and maybe Skinny's or Island Blues. I'm sure it'll be fun regardless of where we end up, but it's my fiancees' birthday is the 20 th, and I'm looking to "wow" her. Someone mentioned Chateau Bordeaux which sounds gorgeous, but it may be a little too mellow. Ideas are gratefully appreciated.-
