I will be shore fishing what I would love to know will my bass luers work and what kinds of rod's and reels will work and loctions and baits. I don't fly fish but I love top water will that work? I have done some fishing up and down the coast of Flordia and still have live bait rigs will that work? Well if I have missed anything let me know.So if any body would like to respond please feel free to email me @ [email protected]

St. John is 75% national park and I don't think there is even catch and release there? Do yourself a favor, call double header charter and they will put you on fish.

Here's some details from this site: https://www.vinow.com/general_usvi/more_info/fishing/usvifishingregulations.php

Silver spoons and cut bait work well. Make sure you use steel leaders and bring pliers for hook removal.

Cheers, RickG

Most fishing here is from boats. No fly fishing. no top water. No bait shops. Best bet is to get someone to take you out for some serious fishing as suggested above. They supply all of the tackle needed.

Rodney, there's a local girl on STJ who enjoys shore fishing. She's active on the Trip Advisor STJ forum. Try posting your question there. She's been a big help to others with great fishing tips.

EE is right, Ronnie! Neptune for true carries bait. I was tempted to say that before EE stepped up to the plate. Neptune's number is 340-775-0115. That said, advice for going out deep-sea fishing with a reputable captain (and Double Header has always received excellent reviews) is really the only way to go.

One thing you really have to be careful about when fishing for food fish is ciguatera poisoning and this is something you might want to read up on. That big fishie you might catch off the beach or off the rocks just might carry the poison that will both attack you in very short shrift and haunt you for many years to come. Cheers!

Also check out the Game Fishing Tables on this site, there is some information there on types of fish, season and bait/lures.

If you want to fish from shore without the expense of renting a boat, do it, but bring your own gear. Also check with the National Park regarding their waters and if a permit is needed. I know you can fish there, because myself and others have fished in Leinster, we did not obtain any kind of permit, but I would suggest looking into it first. There is a big flats section right at the turn off for Maho and Annaberg that hold a variety, jacks, bones, small tarpon etc. Great Cruz Bay at the Westin is full of snook in the winterr months, big ones too, but be mindful, chances are you will be harassed. One thing I never tried was the huge tarpon that hang around the old car ferry dock right downtown, its now used for BVI and cruise ship ferries. At night, you can see them cruising under the lights. I have also seen tarpon feeding on humongus schools of silversides (baitfish) in places like Hawknest and Cinnamon, but there are probably too many people around to be effective and discreet. Good luck.....
