Fishing rods- ship or buy on island

I am coming to St Thomas to visit a friend who lives there and we will be fishing from a boat for most of the time there. I do not know whether to buy and ship fishing rods to the island or purchase them there.

I know there is a k-mart and several tackle shops. Does k-mart have reasonable prices on rods? I don't need anything great. Could I purchase a heavy spinning and casting rod for around $100-$120?

Buying and shipping rods will cost around $120. I have concerns around shipping times and transit damage/loss if I ship.

You might want to call KMart at 340-777-3853 to see what they have in stock. Also Neptune Fishing Supplies in Red Hook at 340-775-0115 (they may even have something you can rent).

Cost U Less also had when I was there last week.
May not be heavy enough for you tho.
