The laurel is for peace. The arrows are for defense. The 13 stripes symbolize the 13 original U.S. states.

The name of our territorial bird is misspelled and should be Coereba flaveola (note that the "c" is capitalized). The name of our flower is also misspelled and should be Tecoma stans.
