Hi everyone,

My fiance and I are traveling to the USVI in late April 2008 for our honeymoon. I was checking flight prices and didn't know if anyone could give me any insight. Right now tickets are going for $500 per person round trip leaving from Louisville, KY on April 28 and returning on May 8. Is this a good price? Average price? Or high price? Any help is appreciated!!

When I first checked into flight prices they were $380 per person (a few months ago). I didn't know any better at the time or I would've grabbed them at that price. Do they normally go back down once it gets closer? I can't decide whether to wait and see because I don't want them to skyrocket again in the mean time. I don't know what to do--help!

Lindsay

I've seen tickets a few days out from Louisville for $500, but I'm not sure if I've seen them much cheaper. You can always get them now and then register for Yapta, and it'll tell you if they go low enough in price that it's worth it for you to get the difference.

I got a great flight about a month out for $400 from Nashville, but I had to watch the airlines like it was my job.

I cannot tell you about Louisville flights, but Phila to STT should run about $400 as an average. Anything lower is good...anything higher than$450 is too high for me. I shoot for under $450.

You guys are all very lucky............we can't get a flight to STT for less than $600.00 a person anytime of the year. I'd say grab it now, who knows what the airlines are going to do, who knows when it will go up/down. I watch the airlines (like it's my job) on a daily basis for future travel and like I said we can never get to the islands for less than $1300.00 with taxes etc. I guess it's all about where you live.........but I say grab them know!

I live in Lexington and feel your pain! Unfortunately, I believe you've found the best rate going. I looked diligently this past year and even set up a fare alert on Travelocity, but $485 was as low as I found it. I ended up using Delta miles from Lexington to Miami then American from Miami to STT during their $79 fare sale.

My guess is it's only bound to go up, not down. It's still well worth the money!

Good Luck! Have Fun!

Who knows what the airlines will do from one day to the next, airfares change constantly, I would grab the $500.00 fare and be happy, you can count on one thing...the airlines won't provide much service no matter what you pay... Go and enjoy and don't look back at airfare,,,you're in Paradise for a special occasion,,,Be Happy & CONGRADULATIONS

If you're in Louisville you may also consider flights from Indianapolis (IND) to STT. I'm originally from Columbus, Indiana which is almost exactly mid-way between Indy & Lousiville. I found that provided more price options for flying.

Yeah - I'm driving 6 of us to Indy from Lexington for a direct Airtran flight into Fort Lauderdale in January. Saved $175 per seat ($1,050 total savings) for the inconvenience of a 2.5 hour drive. Hate to do it, but for a thousand dollars it will be worth it.

When I was pricing flights for my trip, I looked at Atlanta, Memphis, Louisville and Birmingham to see if I might find something cheaper, but ultimately flew out of Nashville. Nashville is only a hub for Southwest, so flights from here tend to be a bit more. I drove two hours to Chattanooga to save $200 on the ticket for my brother's wedding in Florida. At one point I found RT tickets from ATL to STT (direct flight) for $199, but I couldn't buy them right away and when I came back they were gone. I have friends there, so if I can save $200 I'd just make a trip out of it and leave from there.

Try using www.kayak.com to plug in to all of the pricing at various airlines. It also shows a graph of historical pricing, which is very helpful. Also buy your tickets in the morning, since they are as a general rule cheaper at that time of day (I don't know why this is the case, but various people in the airline industry have confirmed this to be true).

At any rate, that price sounds fairly reasonable to me. I'd jump on it...

Hello!
I think $500 is a good rate. We paid that for flights out of Columbus this past spring (a 2-hour drive for us). I have flights booked for next spring to Aruba for $575/PP out of Charleston, WV (great rate!) which is usually $100 more than Columbus. I really don't think that you'll find rates that much better, and I like knowing I've finalized the plans, and locked into a pretty good rate, vs playing the waiting game for another $50 or so.

I'm so jealous!!

If you're in Louisville, do yourself a HUGE FAVOR!!! Drive to Nashville and fly American out of there!! Nashville is my hometown, so I go back and forth. You're only 3 to 4 hours from the Nashville airport depending on traffic and WHERE you are up in Louisville. AND, if you book online directly on American's website, you'll do alot better.

Don't know where you plan on staying when you get here, but if you will email me, I have a close friend who runs a great inexpensive hotel right on a great beach here, and I'll turn you on to her.
