What are you MOST proud of on your island? When people ask you why you live in STJ/T/X, what do you say?

Just curious here 🙂

STX offers a wonderful sense of community and small town living. We don't need six degrees of separation -- here you are one person away from anyone you might want/need to know.

It is not over-developed -- there are lots and lots of open green spaces that can rival parts of St. John when it comes to beautiful settings.

STX is more affordable than the other islands.

Crucians and the people who visit STX are very laid back. This isn't the place to go if you need a really active nightlife or energetic singles scene in order to be happy.

Although it can be argued that it would help end some harder economic times there, STX is cruise ship free. I couldn't stand having the population of the island go up by 25%-30% most every day of the high season as the cruise ships dock and their touristy passenger spill off to swarm the beautiful beaches and towns.

Sorry, couldn't just limit myself to one! Am still in a huge honeymoon period of being a resident here and love a whole lot of features (I'm certain you figured that out).

HC

PS - Thanks for asking this! It's quite the fun question and brought a smile to my face as I wrote about the good things of STX -- that smile feels like it's going to last me all day.

One thing I think about is our history... I was reading this VI history textbook a couple years ago, and I just had this immense pride that I was part of a place that had such a rich history. It's amazing that three small islands have gone through so much in the past 300 years.

Glad you enjoyed it...I figured people must sometimes get awfully tired of answering rental car/wedding questions over and over 🙂

I am proud to live on one of the most exclusive/loved islands in the world. Who doesn't like St. John?

Thank God, that Bush put up those gates to ward off all those terrorists from attacking St. John, though. It was keeping me up at night.
You would think St. John would be the last place that needed a freaking fence on a dock. Its gotta be the most ignorant political statement in the history of democracy.
I guess they are even building gates at caneel to ward off something.......I just don't get it.

Sorry, I was due for a rant.

HC- Please don't make the islands sound any better than they are!!! My wife and I have only been to STJ once but she is literally trying to figure out a way to move there. If she could get a job there she would be there in an instant!! She has never been one to dream so I seriously think she will find a way to get there. (She won't miss me either!).There is no way we can both go but she is more deserving than I and I have never seen her so intent on anything in her life!!

I'm proud of the fact that we have very good race relations. You spend the day interacting with people from all over the world. Life is much less segregated here than on the mainland.
