Please be aware of the new security measures at the airports...terrorist plot out of the UK. They are disallowing beverages and many hand-held devices to be brought on board. Check with your airline on delays, looks like everything may have ground to a halt.

There's a thread on the relocation board on this news with some additional info...just click the link at the top of the page.

My son flew AA from Little Rock to DFW to San Juan yesterday. No food. No beverages. No aftershave in your bag unless it is checked (he lost a bottle to the Trash God after forgetting it was in his carry-on).

Travelers - I don't know if it's true everywhere, but there was total madness at the STX airport yesterday. The luggage was coming in piecemeal. He landed at 5:30 - his last bag came in at 10:00 p.m. Three different bags on three different flights, and had the last one not come in at 10:00 it would have been "sometime tomorrow", which can translate into "sometime in the next week". Please pack your carry on with a change of clothing, you might get to wait a bit for your bags to come in. AA offered to deliver his bags after they came in, but it didn't seem wise to leave them in the open baggage area overnight, where there were STACKS of luggage awaiting the return of their respective owners, and everything was piled in an unsecured area.

Hopefully things have leveled out this morning....everyone have a great, safe vacation!

this is not new, with weight restrictions on the AA flights even on the best days you can get your luggage a day later, they will send at least one piece usually........... personally I always go get my lost luggage myself, they can wait an entire day to call you when it sits there in baggage claim.....just an opinion from a regular flyer

You are absolutely correct - it's happened to us many times in the past. Just seemed yesterday was a little more out of control than usual since they had apparently had a baggage back up at some point and were trying to work through it as best they could. I surely do not envy airline personnel right now.

OK, let me get this right. A massive terrorist plan to kill us (flying public & and those on the ground that would get hit with chunks of planes) and all of a sudden we're worried about bringing home a few bottles of alcohol? I for one would rather error on the side of caution and am grateful to those people that do the job of protecting us so we can enjoy our way of life. I for one will not allow the actions of these terrorists to change the way I conduct my life.

Thank you, Rick! Very well said. On the other hand, rum IS the way some folks conduct their life....oops, did I say that? 🙂

I'm all for making it as easy and painless for airline personnel as possible at this point. Our safety and our very lives could be at stake. If that means paying full price for Cruzan when you return to the mainland, oh well.

As a side note, anyone that really needs cheap liquor take a drive to New Hampshire. We even sell it on the highways and Cruzan Rum is only a couple of bucks more than in the Virgin Islands.

I agree with California Girl, the upside is that it will be easier to actually get on and off the plane without all of the carry-on stuff. I guess this the world we live in today; unfortunately, it doesn't show much sign of getting better.

Sorry Rick,
The last time I stopped in New Hampshire at a highway liquor store, the prices were just about as high as CT. The rum in CT is 2 1/2 times the price on STX. Many years ago NH had low prices. No more.

Guess you get us at the gas pumps now. I'll have to let Gov. Lynch know so he can drop the prices again to bring in all those tourist dollars. But the last time I bought Cruzan at the store in town it was 7.50 but then again most of the Rum we get in the islands is free anyway so you have me there.

Watch yourself on the streets at night. My son and his friend have been mugged, beaten up, and robbed at gunpoint twice since arriving in Charlotte Amalie on the 1st of August. If you value your life, take a cab anywhere at night- DO NOT WALK! You will become a target of some nasty islanders.

So what part of Charlotte Amalie were they walking down? Send the link to the newspaper article. With all the trips we have taken to the islands and all the roads we have walked down at night we have never had an issue but then again we are street savey and don't put ourselves in a position to get robbed, attacked or otherwise bothered regardless of where we are (islands or stateside).

I get a real kick out of how people are so worried about terrorism. In the United States, your more likely to be struck by lightning than become a victim of terrorism. This does not prevent me from going outside, even when it rains, even with lightning. The terrorists have already won, they have exactly what they want; the people's fear - and they are reveling in that.

I do wonder when the terrorists are going to become organized, with a leader that has half a brain. The Internet is going to become a primary target eventually. You could pretty easily disable DNS, as there are not too many core servers, and I am sure they will look at major confluences of fiber as well. All of this is public knowledge.

What if they decide to study the work of special operation forces around the world, learning things like how to pick people who do not look Arab, do not speak with an accent, have half a brain and are willing become a sleeper for 10 years? Fortunately for us, they look strictly for immediate gain, and cannot think this far ahead - for now...

Now Noone why give them food for thought 🙂 ? They did their job by making us jump through loops at the airports to get somewhere on time. Though I will say this I rather be alive than dead if it means no more liquids etc on board. They will always be one step ahead. Too many talking heads on the news telling them how if they really wanted to... Nor am I afraid to walk outside or most anywhere since I am a police officer lol & with a police dog that I drive around with & can take home. Think about those two police officers shot in Fairfax County Virginia whose was shot by a teenager for no reason? The kid was surround by guns & he was unstable now why did his parents let there be so many guns not registered by the police , unlocked & most were assault weapons. They said he was mental unstable but then he should have be in hospital. Most people around where I live are scared to go anywhere, they just go & be on alert like all of us should be.
It will not stop me from flying down to the USVI or anywhere else other than the mid-east, but I do wish they would check the yachts going into the USVI. Some of your points are valid but others I think are your opinions but that is okay you have the right to voice them 🙂 Now you want to check out security go to Germany & you won't get too far. Unless you want to be shot. My husband came back from Yemen for his job flew into Frankfurt & was shocked about the army being all around. He didn't hear about the terrorist threat until he got home. But he prefer flying from there as he put it he feels safe. Of course when he went to a certain country unname but not Iraq his hotel was bombed never was I so mad as I didn't hear about it until 4 days later. I told him he can't go to certain places now. He said I could come & I said no thank you.

Yesterday, at a little tiny county airport here in WV, a woman was stopped trying to go thru security with liquids in her carryon. The dogs got a "hit" on her bag so they stopped everything. They evacuated the 100 or so people there, re-routed all flights thru another aiport, and detained her for questioning. she was originally from the middle east I believe, but is working as a substitute teacher here. Anyhoo, it was a big pain in the *ss, and nothing came of it because the liquids were not explosives. (I think the woman was released by last night - not charged with anything. ) My point - all the people interviewed, altho inconvienced, were thankful that such severe precautions are taken, even at a small airport. It made everyong involved feel safer. Some may say it was a overreaction, a big to do over nothing, but most think that its a necessary evil as they say.

PS her parents were interviewed on the news and they feel she was "targeted" probably because of her nationality, but it all started (I THINK) because the dogs hit on her carry on.

I read about this but not where she was from. All I have to say too bad if they think it is racial profiling. A lot of airports do it & I am one who is happy that they do. If you have nothing to hide no worries. Besides it states no liquid in carry ons and she must have been able to read since she was a teacher. IMHO

All I can say is that in my opinion you are wrong thinking this way. The American people are not to blame for the attacks on the Towers in NYC well as the Pentagon & the plane that went down in PA. It is the Islamic extremists that are to blame. These people are just plain crazy period. They have not only attack us but their own as well. You can try to justify that we are to blame all you want this is not true.
