Coming back to St Thomas Oct 24th. Staying at Blue Beard's the Sat-Sat, but need a place on the 24th and Nov 1st that is inexpensive. Has anyone stayed at the Galleon House in CA lately? It looks like they are around $80 a night, which is pretty cheap. We don't need anything fancy, just a place to crash. Janet

The Galleon House will fit your needs nicely. Clean, cheap and they feed you breakfast! Nice people, too. I stayed there for 10 days when I first moved here and I got a room with a shared bath and it still worked out fine. Location is great. (Have dinner at Herve, next door, yummy!)

My wife and I stayed there for a week while we were making settlement on our condo. Clean rooms at a great price. We'd walk to the Greenhouse during half price apps and 2 for 1 drinks and left full for no more than 20 bucks. Can't beat that!

Thanks for the feedback. Did look at Crystal Palace's website, but they charge an additional $15 if you are there for less than three nights. Also, Galleon looked like it was right in the thick of things and easy walking to shops and restaurants. Janet

I have a medical representative coming down for a few days to train some personnel in our hospitals, and I booked him into the Galleon House. Martha is a supernice lady, the place has a great location (Gov't Hill, next to Herve, across from the Post Office on Main Street) and breakfast is YUMMY!

Sorry the additional $15 bothers you Janet, but most places don't do one nighters.I figured it a way to be able to accept one night guests. I do offer free pick up from the airport that will save you much more than $15. Enjoy.

Hey, Ronnie, how do your rates compare to Galleon House? If I can save this guy a coupla bucks, he may appreciate it....

It's not always about saving a couple of bucks. Hospitality reigns and, Marty, you surely must admit that Crystal Palace and it's history and basic accoutrements can't in any way compare to Galleon House.

Some visitors don't care about our history and are just looking for a quick pit stop but for those who are looking for a quick pit stop at a reasonable price along with some taste of VI history and culture, I recommend Crystal Palace.

Again, each to his own. Cheers!

This guy is going to be in the hospital training our personnel at least 12 hours per day, so he just needs a clean, cheap place to sleep. Heard great things about Crystal Palace, though, but I'm not familiar with the rates.

My rates start at $99. I do have Villa Fairview if you are looking for inexpensive. That's $925 for a month.

Good feedback. Sorry if I offended you Ronnie. I'm a business owner myself and don't begrudge anyone making a living, but cost does factor into my decision making. Also good to note about the airport pick up, because that would be very helpful. I appreciate that other folks have pointed out that they like the hospitality at Crystal Palace as that's a consideration too. I've been checking other websites and, while I'm always cautious about anonymous reviews from folks, was surprised by the comments on a tripadvisor website on Galleon House. A volleyball group staying there in September said they had over $1200 in stuff stolen from their room and felt the mgt dealt with it poorly. Theft can happen anywhere and I have seen some fellow American tourists behaving very poorly in STT in the past, but it was concerning. Since we have a day on either side of our BlueBeard's stay, we may be able to check out both places and provide our own review. Thanks for all the comments. Janet

OUCH! That ouch is about the volleyball group who said they had $1200 stolen at Galleon House.. Where did you hear about it and might you provide the TA link? I can google it on TA but am curious because I don't remember anything in the local newspapers related to such - and I do read end to end every day, just habit!

I don't believe for a moment that you offended Ronnie. He's a miserable old fart but a sweetheart as well. And, Ronnie, you'd best not take any offense at Brit humour otherwise I'll have to smack you. I also just got my official Vi Government-issued Old Fart Card which gives me discounts. Bennies are good! Ronnie, you must have had those bennies for a while now? As Bill Maher says, "Oh we just kid!"

Cheers!

I saw that review, but there was also a reply from the owner who said the group tore up the hotel and was asked to leave. I don't know whose story is true, but I will say this about Trip Advisor reviews. People only write them when they are either really pissed off or have a great experience. Some people also have issues with managing their expectations. You don't go to a Days Inn and expect the Hyatt; life just doesn't work that way. If I had not gone to hotels based on just the bad TA reviews, I would have missed out on a lot of great hotels. What I always do is look at ALL the reviews, see what they are saying and if the majority say not to stay somewhere and have valid issues, then I am more leery. If one or two people have a bad experience, especially if the experience seems a little unfounded and is refuted, then I will ignore it. I think you took the right step to ask around here before writing someone off for one bad review.

I haven't stayed at Galleon House, but most of the reviews were very favorable. Of course, it is not the Ritz, but then again, the Ritz does not cost $99/night.

STT...I don't have the trip advisor link, but I'm sure you could find it easily enough as it was recent. I think Lulu is right. I have read lots of reviews on Trip Advisor and there do seem to be lots of people who were reserving Days Inn and expecting the Ritz. I have usually stuck to the vinow message board as it seems to be much more current and realistic. My expectations of STT are: beautiful beaches, cheap rum and nice people....haven't been disappointed yet.....Janet
