I am traveling to STT for 10 days in June. My father is a boatie anchored near Yacht Haven Grande and I am staying with him for most of the trip. However, my friend is meeting me down there and is staying at the Galleon House Hotel for 4 days. Has anyone been there lately? The reviews are mixed, and I would love to get a more recent evaluation of the place. Is there area safe? (We are both single women) My brother seems to think it may be in a bad area of Frenchtown and he advised us to take taxis everywhere instead of walking or renting a car. Anyway, please post your opinions.

We will be taking a side trip to the BVI (Jost and Tortola) for three days on Yacht Irie. We will be going over the June full moon. My question is, can you still find Full Moon parties in the BVIs?

Also, has anyone gone on the racing yachts through Ondeck Racing? I have heard they are a lot of fun, and am thinking about checking it out while there. I have 104 days left to go!

Much love to all who post!

Heather

We stayed at Galleon House a little over a year ago, and it was perfectly fine. Nothing fancy, but it was a roof over our heads which is exactly what we were looking for. My husband did mention we shouldn't walk around the area outside the hotel at night, and we didn't as we got in late and left early. Hopefully someone can give you a better feel for the climate there now.

Galleon House is downtown, not in Frenchtown. You will be fine walking in the day, but I would take taxis at night. Herve's is next door.

Yes, there still are full moon parties in Tortola. (I think you might be in more danger at some of them than at Galleon House, IMHO.)

I thought Ondeck booked through the cruise ships. Can you get on if you are land based?

Make sure you ask for a room with a view/window...no, it is not safe to wander around at night...use taxis, or eat at Herve's, right nxt door.
