If any visitors on STT on Sunday August 19 would like to enjoy something a little different and support a worthy cause, The Toad and Tart English Pub will be hosting its annual "Genips For Crits" fundraiser for the Humane Society of STT from 10-4PM, right outside the pub on the Smith Bay Road.

Young summer volunteers from the HS will be selling the genips to passing motorists on both sides of the road (just $1 for a big bunch!) while, if you'd like to park up, we'll be serving a BBQ lunch from 11-3. (Just $5 for a big plate of either an 8oz hamburger or a 1/4 chicken with all the trimmings!)

There'll also be some great puppies and adult dogs showing their talents and begging to be adopted, while volunteers from the Humane Society will have special commemorative tee shirts for sale (wearing a "Genips For Crits" tee back home wiill really make you stand out!)

If you don't know how to eat genips, we'll show you how and of course the bar will be open!

All proceeds from this event go to the Humane Society and we'd love to see you. Cheers!

I help with animal rescue here in Arkansas and nothing makes me feel better that animals having a chance to find a good home. I saw the signs for the new Humane Society this past June. Can anybody tell me if donations can be paid through paypal. My hats off to animal lovers.

sleeper18: Try the website - www.hsstt.com. If that doesn't have the information I'll be seeing the HS folks tomorrow and Sunday so will ask and let you know. Yes, we're still going ahead with The Plan and hopefully the weather will clear by Sunday. No doubt the winds will knock some of the genips off the tree tonight and that's fine because I'm planning on making some lethal genip rum...

STT Res, you make me long for the fun things of the islands again....I really must make a trip with a side trip to STT. If you save some rum, I'll be there pretty quickly! How long will it keep???

What a great cause - much success to you all!

Saturday Night - the animals need your help tomorrow!

It's been a LONG day but I'm happy to say
That the tree's pretty bare (just a few left up there!)
Big branches got lopped and a few genips popped
But we saved quite a ton to make genip rum!
Just a dollar a bunch and a five dollar lunch
So please come on by and stop to say hi!

Cheers!

STT Resident, I hope your affair was a huge success!! We're active with the local humane society in western Pa and always try to help out the animals whenever we can. We have a black lab mix that we got there about 8 yrs ago and she's now in charge of our house and property, lol.

THE END!

Thanks so much to everyone. Every last genip bunch was sold, every bite of food likewise and MAYBE perhaps a puppy is en route to a new home. A great success all in all but everyone should remember that, for all the good we did today, a whole bunch of wonderful animals are penned up in the shelter and will die if not adopted...
