My husband and I are planning a trip to the USVI in November. We're trying to work it where we stay on St. John 4 nights and St. Thomas 3 nights. We want to go to Jost Van Dyke and spend the day just relaxing and drinking pain killers LOL. My question is what is the best and cheapest way to get there? We went on a charter 2 years ago from St. Thomas that went to the Baths, The Indians and then for a short visit to Soggy Dollar. We would like to skip the Baths and spend more time at Soggy Dollar. Is it better from St. John or St. Thomas? Appreciate any suggestions. Thx.

Check the ferry schedule to Jost from STJ once you get here - the ferry is the cheapest and easiest and since you have to clear C&I in STJ --- easier to do while you are on STJ.

S&F, My wife and I head to StJ in June. We too want to spend one day on JVD. What we've found so far is the ferry schedule below.

ST. THOMAS/ST. JOHN - JOST VAN DYKE, BVI

BETWEEN RED HOOK, CRUZ BAY and GREAT HARBOUR, JOST VAN DYKE: Round trip $40 - 45 minutes. INTER-ISLAND (776-6597). Friday Saturday and Sunday only. Reserve.

Leaving Red Hook / Leaving Cruz Bay / Leaving Jost Van Dyke
8:00 am / 8:30 am / 9:15 am
2:00 pm / 2:20 pm / 3:00 pm

I'm sure these times are subject to change. Also, note that you will be required to have a passport for entry to JVD. As this is our first time to STJ, I would accept an island vets corrections or comments.

The ferry service to Jost has been increased and is now available Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Click onto the ferry schedule under Quick Links top right this page and scroll down to the very end where you'll find the info. Have fun!

Thanks to all for the suggestions. Sounds like the ferry is the way to go. I take it that there is a bus that will take you from the ferry dock to White Bay/Soggy Dollar? If not, how is the best way to get there from the ferry. Last time we were there the boat just anchored close to the beach and we really didn't have the time to venture out for site seeing.

x2bate, thanks for the ferry schedule and you are correct in that you will need a passport to go to Jost Van Dyke. I understand that it is your first time to the island and you will absolutely love it. All we've done since we have returned from our trip 2 years ago is dream and plan of how to get back. :))

There will be cabs at the ferry dock in Great Harbor to take you to White Bay - not buses. Last November it was $5 a person each way and you can arrange for one to pick you at the Soggy for the return to the ferry. Have a great time there.

Time has a way of slipping by at The Soggy, so Make sure you get back to the ferry dock a little early. Like quarter of 3. It's the Last Boat out, so to speak. There is a little store/snack shop right by the dock for a last beer or whatever before the ferry ride. Like was said, make arrangements with your taxi driver for a pick up time and location so you don't have to worry about it. It's only a couple minute ride and the taxi guys are great about keeping the appointed pick ups. That said give them a few minutes either way and wait for the one you reserved. Sometimes they make a special trip just for you.
