I have always enjoyed taking my 2 adult kids on adventures. Snorkeling reefs/caves at the Blue Cave Castle in Negril Jamaica and so I keep going back to the same place. Tried Costa Rica but had a shark encounter. I am taking my 16 year old grandson end of Sept. for 10 nights and will be landing in St. Thomas. All the islands are beautiful. I'm a old hippie fowerchild so would like to find a bungalow on the beach or by reefs. Any help would be great. Also heard of a island parti while we will be there. All 3 islands get to gether as a friendship party. Looking forward to that. Anyone been there at that time. Dala in Idaho

Beach front bungalows are uncommon here and the few that exist and are available for weekly rentals are expensive.

On St. John, the Gibney Beach cottages qualify as "bungalows on the beach" and since you'll be here during low season, the cost is $4000/week plus 13% tax and service charge. You can see the cottages here: http://www.caribbeandays.com/stjohn/3bedroom/gibneyvillas.shtml

St. Thomas has some timeshare/condo complexes on the beach at various resorts including Point Pleasant, Sapphire, Ritz-Carlton, Secret Harbour etc.

St. Croix is accessible by sea plane from St. Thomas and there are several resorts with a beach including Divi, Buccaneer etc.

Maho Campground on St. John would fit the bill for an "old hippie" and a 16 year old. Not beach front and definately low key but I enjoyed my month stay there on a worker program. Check out maho.org for info.

Check out maho bay and cinnamon bay camps. Cheap.

We have plans to head down to Water Island Sept 17th-24. I am keeping my fingers crossed about the weather. We have been during Sept before and all was well. And the airfares are great!!

If your interested in an adventure on a 500 acre island just off the coast of St Thomas consider Water Island. It has very private beaches, lots of wildlife and is far from the cruise ship crowds. There are several beaches to snorkel and explore. No condos or hotels.

Take a look at www.slowmocean.com. There you will see the two houses we offer for rental. A golf cart comes with the house--so no rental car needed.

Water Island is beautful, private, quite and unspoiled by large crowds. It is easy to make a trip over to St Thomas to shop and then come back to the privacy of WI.
