I haven't stayed at the Grand Beach yet, but am schedule to next week. One of my co-workers has been there twice and highly recommended it and said he would go back again.

Will let you know of my experience when I return on June 7th.

We went to the Grand Beach last June for our honeymoon, and were very dissappointed. They were the Renaissance Grand Beach then. Looks to me they have changed ownership. We did not have a good experience there. We were upgraded to a poolside room upon arrival, only to find out there was a hugh Salvation Army Awards Ceremony going on that night.......ALL NIGHT..........the band played till 3 am, we had to call the front desk twice. We need some rest from a long weddding weekend, and a long flight. The lady at the front desk said since we were on our honeymoon, she would have a bottle of champagne sent to our room that night. HAHA.........That never happened.

We could never get music turned on at the pool, we practically had to beg. Getting drinks at the bar, was like pulling teeth. They ignored you, and took their good ol time making them. Don't eat breakfast outside at the tables by the pool, you will be dive bombed by ducks and seagulls. Totally disgusting. The drinks and food are over priced.Walking over the the only cool place to eat at Fungi's was a walk in the dark - literally. Walking on rocks in the dark. Be careful. The hotel was not full in June, and sometimes our room would not get made up till 5 pm. Sorry for the bad news, I did write to Renaissance Grand when we got home, and asked them to contact us. NO REPLY. Go figure.

If you want to go sightseeing, don't take a cab. Take the bus for $1.00 per person. Its fun makes constant runs around the island. The concierge doesn't like to tell you that. We found out on our own.
Oh, one good thing, the best snorkeling is just over the hill past the docks. You can buy dog biscuits to feed the fish while swimming. It was incredible. But, bring your own towel and buy the dog biscuits at the dive shop at the hotel. They railroad you over at the snorkeling spot, and charge you for everything.

Well, I hope your trip is better then ours was. We did enjoy ourselves, because just being together made that come natural. My husband and I said that the place needed some management issues taking care of, and that we would go back. I am hoping for your sake that is what has happened.. Have a good time. I am crossing my fingers for you.

Tracey! This is aweful news. I know that we had a horrible time with their wedding coordinator and ended up getting our money back and going with an independent coordinator. I was hoping the rest of the hotel was better than the treatment I got with her.

But tell me about the bus. Does it stop by the hotel often? Does it take you to Magen's Beach and back? Is there a way to find out the bus route schedule?

Thanks for the snorkeling tips!

I've stayed at the above hotel a few times when it was the Renaissance Grand (last tieme 11/02)and did experience one night when there was a reception and the poolside area was loud. Tried several times to contact the front desk and all we received were apologies. They should have informed guests in advance who were staying poolside that there would be a party that evening and music may be heard until late into the night. I suppose there is nothing that they can do especially if someone does pay for a party--however, they should have limited the entertainment up until a certain time.

As for the food, we only ate at the resort restaruants during our first trip--and since the service was slow, and the food mediocre, we opted to go out and explore restaurants on the island for the rest of the time and with our supsequent visits.

Looking to hear your feedback about the new place--have a great trip!

I am interested in hearing from anyone who has stayed there since Palace Resorts took over. I am a member of Palace resorts and all of their resorts in Mexico are fabulous and very well run. Hoping to go to Grand beach Palace next year and would love some feed back. We did stay at this resort a couple of years ago in one of the villas, I wonder what they are doing with the villas?.....jean

My husband and I just got back from our wedding and honeymoon at the Grand Beach --- Don't GO!!! We had 24 people come with us, and I was extremely disappointed (as were most of the other people there). First of all, it is now "all inclusive." Not worth the money. At the other all inclusives I have heard about, food is served around the clock and you even have room service. Not so at the Grand Beach Palace. The beach is a joke, and they allow boats to dock in it, so it ruins your view of St. John. The service was horrible -- slow and totally understaffed. My aunt and uncle had bugs in their room -- and their bed! If you do go, upgrade to a poolside room. The "resort view" rooms are a hike from the restaurants and are on steep hills. Forget about resting at the pool. The music was so loud and obnoxious I had to move to the beach just to get some peace and quiet.

This place needs A LOT of work. I know the Palace Resorts are really nice, and I was duped by my travel agent into thinking that this place was the same. If you're going to go, I would wait 2-3 years until the place is totally renovated. Then, you might get your money's worth. But if you're planning a wedding and trying to impress your guests with a luxurious island wedding, do not go anywhere near this place!

Stayed at Grand Beach Palace 5/17-5/23. It was OK. Grounds are very scenic but the 95 steps up to our room from the lobby was a bit much. Note that we stayed in the middle set of buildings, there were some people who had to climb as many as 135 steps to get to the next level. Yes, I counted them....probably because I was bored with the whole scene. One can only take so much kareoke and bingo at the poolside. Had problems with ants in dresser drawers and air conditioning in the bedroom. My request for a room change was met with a promise to "see what I can do and call you back". Never did get the call. In fairness to the Grand Beach Palace, they are not unique. All the hotels have the same issues, lots of hills, small beaches and not much within walking distance. Cabs are decent but this was our first (and last) trip to St. Thomas. Imagine the worst mountain roads you have ever been on and that is pretty much the entire island. Went to Meagans Bay which was highly touted and found it to be a repulsive public beach with fly infeseted rest rooms and a hamburger shack. All the questionable locals sit on picnic benches in the tree line leading to the beach, drinking and smoking pot as they just lie in wait for some tourist to leave their valuable unattended. Sure, it was picturesque, but another 15 yard wide beach with the feeling of being in a third world country. I am sorry that I cant report much good news. If you are in the market for diamonds, they have plenty of jewelry stores. High pressure sales people too. Good luck.

I just returned from the Palace St Thomas two weeks ago. It was fabulous!! Although we did not stay in the hotel we did stay on the property. I rented a villa located off the parking lot, it is privately owned and operated. I frequently used the Palace pool and bar. The hotel has activities coordinators that are awsome. As far as more info about the $1 bus, if you are staying at the Palace you are located in what is know as the "country" and you can catch it to most every place on the island except Magen's Bay. The will drive past the entrance to the Palace but you have to flag them down. The bus runs about every 15 minutes. You can also make it back from Main Street on the same bus but cab drivers will tell you different. Talk with the locals they will let you know which are buses and which are taxi's. Be sure to check out Coki Beach which is located over the hill at the end of the beach. Order one of the best cheeseburgers in paradise that you will ever eat at Uncle Buddy's (its a little shack on the beach). Can't wait to get back. My favorite part about St. Thomas would be the people.

Hi Brenda, we are leaving June 27th and we are staying in a villa on the property of the Grand Beach. What was the villa called or the room numbers? We are staying at the Pineapple Village Villas. There are 16 in our family and we have 6 rooms altogether. One whole villa and 2 rooms in another. We have no idea what to expect. Can you give me some idea of what to expect? This is our first trip to St. Thomas and we can use any suggestions you can provide. Thanks
