I've been looking around the web site at all the links to villas and homes to rent. We will be there for around 10 days in May so rates are pretty reasonable. Its hard to tell from pictures sometimes what things are actually like. So I would like some input from some people who have some suggestions. Maybe somewhere you stayed and loved!

What we are looking for:

There will be three of us, myself, my husband and our 5 year old so a 2 bedroom would be nice.
Kitchen or kitchenette so we can cook our own meals.
Great outdoor deck.
Great view of course.
Don't need a pool(plan on snorkeling alot) but hot tub would be nice (though not a necessity).
Our funds are a little tight so cheaper is better. I saw a few for around 1300 for a week which would be doable but if we could find something cheaper yet still nice that would be great.

One other question. We rented a place in the Bahamas a few years ago. Alot of the rentals were weekly and had to start on a weekend. Am I going to run into that alot or are they usually more flexible?

Thanks for the help!

String of Pearls is a great place to stay. Just stayed there in July for my honeymoon. It is located on the beach, with a deck & hot tub, right next to the Westin so easy access to taxis. If you would like more information please let me know.

Check out www.stjohnvi.net. We rented a condo at Pastory Estates from Don Blumenthal last July. Truly peaceful, great views, pool, very comfortable and affordable. We rented the Coral and Blue unit but Don does have some 2 bedroom units, too. He lives on site and was truly a great host!! Answered all our dumb questions since we were newbies and even burned a cd of our pictures before we left. We felt like we made a new friend and we're going back next June. You can email me if you have any questions. Don rents beginning and ending on any day of the week. Oh, and the view from the deck is OUTSTANDING!

Try Starlit Escape, in Coral Bay. www.StarlitEscape.com. It has a private pool, it's completely equipped, and It's the best value on St. John.

I've have also stayed at Coral and Blue and we really enjoyed ourselves. This is probably the largest one bedroom on the island! The kitchen is very large and stocked with all the items you would need to make a nice dinner. We liked that the condo was near the Pastory Gardens golf course, they have a nice bar with a GREAT view and live music most nights. Don is a fantastic host! He told us some really great places to go snorkeling. He has some fantastic underwater pictures. We can't wait to go back!

I stayed just outside of Cruz Bay in St. John (close to shopping, entertainment, galleries and nightlife) at an affordable, gorgeous, roomy condo called Coral and Blue in Pastory Estates. Don, the owner, was an excellent host (knows the best places to snorkle!), the condo was spacious, pristine and had a wonderful ocean view. Check it out at www.stjohnvi.net!

Has anyone stayed at the Villa La Mer near Cruz Bay? If so, what is it like?
