Haiti to St. john

Our son is trying to join us for a week on St. John in Feb. He has to travel from Cap Haitien (in northern haiti) to Miami to San Juan to St. Thomas. Anyone out there know of boat route or small airlines which would make his trip more direct?

Thanks for any help here.

Brady: Customs has caught hundreds of Haitians and Dominicanos who have taken the boat route here. But I promise you, your son soes not want to do that! The only other flights would be through Puerto Rico.
