Hello Everyone! One week and counting. I was so so sad to hear they close the panini 🙁

I loved loved their pizza. Is there anywhere else on the island that is similar?

What about good italian food? Particulary the traditional kind like fettuchini alfredo or a great spagetti??

Panini Beach made a neopolitan pizza - thin crust using soft wheat flour. I especially liked their pizza vongole. I have not seen another like it on STJ. I do like the NY style pizza at Senorita Pizza, Roma and Donkey Diner. But, that's a different animal.

Cheers, RickG

If you're looking for authentic Italian food, try Da Livio across from the Lime Inn. And I mean authentic -- everything down to the chef, and even the toilet, were imported from Italy. It's a fairly new restaurant and I think they have some kinks to work out still, but it's the real deal. Otherwise, I'll second the advice you've already received and recommend Cafe Roma. I personally love Senorita Pizza in Wharfside.

I have heard that Da Livio uses "store bought" pasta in their dishes and for the cost of food there everyone (that I have talked to) want's fresh made. I have no idea if this is true or not so please if anyone knows for sure let me know 🙂

Thanks

Pia

As far as I know Pia, it is unfortunately still true 🙁 They keep saying they'll "soon" be making their own pasta, but it just hasn't happened yet. And I've heard the same thing regarding the cost of the meals, although I know he's brought the prices down some since he first opened.
As for the best dish there, I LOVE the gnocchi.

I don't know if that's the case or not, but just as a rule of thumb, I wouldn't expect to find great Italian food in the Caribbean (or great Chinese, Greek, Mexican or Middle Eastern). When we're in the Caribbean, we like to eat meals that have something to do with the Caribbean. Whenever we travel, we like to try things that are unique to the region, that we're not going to be able to eat anywhere else.

On STT our favorite upscale Italian restaurant is Romano's, the owner Tony creates fabulous, authentic Italian dishes. There #is (340) 775-0045. The are on the road to Coki beach on the right hand side of the road. My pick for pizza is Kokopellis in Market Square East, more of a family pizza place that combines both Greek and Italian food. They are up by Cost-U-Less and the movie theatre, also in STT. Their #' is (340) 715-5280. Nice place to get a bite to eat after you stock up on food for the week at Cost-U-Less.

Yes Paradise Cafe has wonderful pizza in the Italian tradition.
Rumor has it the chef started out at Panini Beach.
