OK, I know this is a weird question. We are getting 2 golden retriever puppies next month. My husband is going to name the male to reflect his love of the mountains. I want to name the female to reflect my love of beatiful beaches, warm blue water and gorgeous coral reefs. I have thought of coral but I'm not sure if I like it. Anyone else have any ideas?

Sinjin - it's the British nickname for someone named St John. Indeed, St John is pronounced that way most times, but spelled as noted as a nickname. It is sometimes used for a funny way of nicknaming females named Joan (St Joan) as well.

Sinjin would be a great name. Other ideas....what about just naming her after one of the north shore beaches? I'm thinking "Cinnamon", "Jumbie" or "Maho". Or perhaps you could use something like "Caribe"?

"Puffer"-for those puffer fish
"Anna"-for the ruins on St John
"Cinnamon"- doesn't need xplaination
"Petra"-for the petraglyphs (sp)
"Miss Lucy"- hope she won't be offended
"Jumbie"-I think I might have to steal this one when we get a Boxer

Great idea! And have fun with new puppies!

Sunny (too obvious), Ra (ancient Egyptian god of the sun), Helio (Greek name for sun), Azure, Caribes, Antilles

Thanks for the thread....that was fun to think about!

What does Jumbie mean anyway? I think I read it somewhere but can't remember.

I suggest Coral and Cruz.

Tell your husband to name the cat after some mountain. 🙂

Jumbies are spirits. Mocko jumbies are stilt dancers.

We don't have a cat. But he is considering Copper (named after a ski resort we worked at in Colorado) for the male. So Coral and Copper would work. Still mulling over Coral. Kind of a double meaning because they both also describe the color of golden retrievers..

I love Cruz and Coral. Tell your husband he's outvoted. You would always think of STJ when you call them to dinner. If that doesn't do it for you, how bout Francis and Peter. Bay could be their middle name.

Coral - - the color of golden retrievers??

Nah, more like sand. My vote would be for one of the "beachy" names like Cinnamon or even Coki (the beach or the frog). Cinnamon is a better description of the color of the dog 🙂

Think of it....Copper and Cinnamon. Too cute!

Candya89,

Whats a flat coat retriever? Is that a lab?

I like the name Jumbie but that would fit better for the male.

I'll have my husband read this thread tonight so keep em comming!

Coral and Cruz are great names. Cruzan is also a good one, especially if the pup is a darker color. Carat after Carat Bay in STT and also for a 14 "Karat" Gold-en Retriever??

We named one of our Maltese "Wee Be Jammin" and called him "Jamms" for short. Ol' Bob was probably spinning over that one - lol.

I have two golden retrievers. One is named "Irie"(no explaination needed?) and the other, "Shaggy" (after the dancehall reggae singer).

One note on naming a dog. The dog's name should be at least two syllables. This is because all commands are one syllable (sit, stay, come, down, drop, etc..) This is to help avoid confusing the dog when training.
