Hi Everyone,

Need some help here. I have been traveling for years and tried out Spirit Airlines for the first time when we flew to St. Thomas for a few weeks. We returned home on Wednesday. Problem 1 was solved. They lost my luggage on the way, but it was delivered to me the following evening. The ladies at the Spirit desk in STT were terrific. They would answer my calls when I would call them at the airport and I recieved my luggage intact. Nothing missing or broken.

Here's my really big problem. They lost my luggage again on my return trip. Today is day 5. I have called the Spirit number at O'hare and knowone has ever answered their phone or returned my messages. Not once have I been able to speak to a real person at Spirit. I have called the Corporate Office, the Fort Lauderdale baggage control center, any number I can get I will try and leave messages. I have also faxed them numerous times. Not once have I recieved even the smallest courtesty of a phone call to at least update me as to whether my luggage is delayed or totally missing.

Like most other travelers I have my video and camera equipment, clothes and toiletries. But more important, we brought our 2 youngest children with and all of their school books. We have a tutor when we are on island. Now not only the school books are all missing, so is 3 weeks worth of homework.

If I could get a response from Spirit I would know how to proceed. Come tomorrow, I'm going to repurchase (hopefully borrow) all of their textbooks and please ask for additional time so that we may recreate their homework.

I will never fly again with Spirit regardless of the promotions that they offer.

Has anyone had a similar experience, or any luck speaking or contacting ANYONE at Spirit? Any help would be much appreciated.

Molly

Molly:

My daughter and her 4 friends all "lost" their luggage last January returning from STT on Spirit. The problem probably resulted in FLL (connection). I called Spirit the next day....left a message....and received a return call within a couple of hours telling me that they had located the bags and would be returning them the next day via courier. Only 4 bags were returned that day, followed by the 5th bag a day later.

I personally have used Spirit 5 times and have never had a bag "lost".

American once lost my bag "forever".....meaning I never got the bag back.....resulting in a 9 month battle with American over payment.

Suggest that you keep calling Spirit and leaving a "nicely worded" message.......I suspect that agents tend not to call back angry sounding people.

F.I.

Thanks Future Islander,

My calls have been somewhat courteous. The first few days I was very polite, but have become increasingly aggitated. I don't think that it is too much to ask for the courtesy of a response, but come on, this is my fifth day with no calls, nothing!

If you read through the entire Spirit Airlines lost or delayed baggage policy (you will find it on the very bottom of the multiple pages) it states "We will search for your missing property and contact you only (yes they underlined only) if we have located your property or an item similar to your description". Check it out for yourselves.

I am proceeding with all of the recommended protocol. I filled out my lost luggage report at the airport when my luggage didn't arrive. I've tried calling every number possible to find out anything. I have the claim forms that need to be submitted if my luggage is delayed for more that 5 days, but please, I still would expected a call from someone to know that they are at least trying to locate it.

Again, anyone who has any new information on how to retrieve my lost luggage from Spirit please let me know.

Sincerely,

Molly

I almost always fly Spirit when going to Florida, never had a problem because it is direst. We are going to STT for 10 days this april, and decided not to use Spirit because there is a connection. And we did not know how that would go. We considered US Airways they have direct flights fro Philadelphia to St Thomas .We ended going with American Airlines because it was 100 dollars cheaper than US airways. Next time try these airlines, and see if there fly direct from your airport

Update,

I did finally speak with someone at customer service with Spirit. Very friendly and somewhat helpful. He did say that they have made a note on my trip ID that they are looking for my luggage. It has yet to be found, but it was nice to at least speak with someone and know that they are at least looking.

How far away are you from the nearest Spirit counter?
If I were you I would go visit if the effort is worth it to you.
I would then offer a $50 tip to the counter person if they can locate and deliver your luggage.

Of course don't hand over the tip until you get your bags. Then if your dead set against flying Spirit again, don't tip.

My luggage just arrived via Fedex. It feels like Christmas! Jeeperman, I live 4 hours from O'hare, thankfully I don't have to take a day off and go to Chicago. Thanks for the advice everyone.

One last comment on Spirit. The tickets were cheap, the airplanes are new and clean, the staff on board and at the ticket counters were excellent. With the exception of the missing bags and lack of customer service to help me resolve this issue in a timely matter, I may fly them again, but only bring carry-on luggage.

You most likely work for Spirit if that is your response to their problems. They ruined a $5K trip for me, then never returned my bag or e-mails. Spirit can rot in hell, I am calling the Attorney General's office to go after this group of criminals when I return stateside.

Dear Angry,

Quite shocked if you were referring to me about working for Spirit. I thought that I lambasted them pretty good.

What Irked me the most is that not once did I ever get to speak to anyone who knew anything about my luggage. It just arrived 8 days late and never a follow-up call or anything.

I take it that they lost your luggage on the way to the USVI's?

Carry on rules! $20 a bag checked luggage - ? - ship or mail it.

Wondering if Angry ever got their bags back.

US Air lost our luggage on a trip to the Keys. Phila-Ft. lauderdale. Had nothing with us. They never did find our bags and I can only assume that someone stole them. Not only did I have a tag on the outside of the baggage, I always put a written piece of paper with address and phone number inside checked luggage.

Eventually, we had to itemize every single thing in those suitcases included things like toothbrushes, deoderant, etc. What a pain, but we did receive a check (the highest) that they give to people who lose their luggage.

Really don't know what they would want with our luggage, there was really nothing valuable in there except our favorite clothes.

What a pain to get to your destination and have nothing and have to go look for clothes to wear. At that point you don't care what you get, as long as it fits.

I lost a bag in January of this year. I submitted all required documents in mid January (certified). Per Spirits website, they advised to allow 30 days after form is received to search for the bag. If the bag is not located wait 2-4 weeks for processing of claim. I have called two weeks straight, left messages with baggage department and customer service. I have yet to receive a return call. The corporate office is a joke, no one ever answers the phone, or returns calls. I decided to search the web for any information I could find on Spirit. Surprisingly I found an overwhelming amount of blogs about lost baggage and extremely poor customer service. Several people have had to take them to small claims court for reimbursement. Which is the next step I will be taking. In addition to reporting them to the BBB and Department of Aviation Consumer Affairs (if there is one). It's one thing to totally disregard a persons property, then add rude employees and non-responsive customer service, UNACCEPTABLE!

You'd be wasting your time with the BBB. It's a rotting corpse of an organization that has ran its course, offers no "scare factor" to offenders anymore. You should take your complaint to your attorney general as well as find a friend involved with a law firm that can send them a request on company letterhead so it garners a little more attention from Spirit.

I know this is an old thread and your inquiry new.
Have you tried contacting them by e-mail thru their site?
If on STT you can go down and ask in person at their desk.
Check hours of operation.
