Can anyone tell me their favorite hiking trails on STJ. Also, was wondering if you need hiking shoes or are sneakers okay on all the trails? Would appreciate comments. Thanks!

I suggest you get the book Feet Fins and Four Wheel Drive - great book that will give you a detailed look as the hikes available on St John. Here is a link to the Trail Bandits Map

The info on page two of the Trail Bandit map is a great place to start, Pia posted the link above...

We also use "St John: Off the Beaten Track" by Gerald Singer. There's quite a variety of trails on STJ ranging from easy walks to more demanding hikes. You should be fine in sneakers.

My favorite--- from Cruz Bay, up Margarite and Caneel hills, then down to and thru Caneel Bay resort, then on to Honeymoon Beach and back to town. The beginning is tough (steep) and the 1/4 mile or so thru Caneel Bay resort is not mapped. Really great in the early AM when you can have Honeymoon all to yourself.

Ram Head trail is a must! Also take the side spur over to Drunk Bay and view the coral art work! Good soled sneakers will be fine.
