Just returned from 5 days in St John. I will post a detailed trip report soon, but here are a few of the highlights...

Villa Capiz....Beautiful, awesome pool!!!I took lots of pictures.

Carefree Getaways.....Could not have been better, great beach bag full of goodies from the villa owners and staff.

Weather....great! Except for Monday the day we left, but I was glad it was raining, I was so sad to leave.

snorkeling....very nice, also a little scary, will explain later.

Restaraunts.....good,great and bad...more to come, but alot of them were closed due to vacation.

Relaxation....Well that could not have been any better. The advantage of being there in Sept is there were very, very few tourists. We had complete privacy at almost every beach. Imagine 5 people at Trunk bay on a beautiful sunny day!!! All others to our selves. Heaven on earth!

Any urgent questions? Please ask.

Ooooohhhh GOOD! We are staying at Villa Capiz in June for DD's graduation trip. I'm so glad you liked it. I've been a little nervous. Please post a detailed report and let us know more. Was there anything you didn't like? Besides the pool, what were the highlights? How's the view? The description only lists VCR, is there a DVD? I was to know more!!!

Hey Chrisn,
The best thing about this villa, besides the pool, was the view! There are Asian inspired sliding doors that enclose the full lenght of one side of the house. When we first arrived and Pacho from Carefree was showing us around, he opened those doors and it took my breath away. The view is so much better than any of the photos show. In fact, the house is much nicer in person than the website shows. The grounds are lush and tropical. Totally private, even though there are villas on both sides and in front.

I took a ton of digitals of the house. I can email you them, if I can figure it out. The other thing that I loved about the house was the showers. There are two identical showers off the master suites that have an incredible view when the doors are open. With all the privacy, this is not an issue.

I am not sure if there was a DVD player or not. We did not turn the TV on once during our stay. There is a nice stereo system upstairs and down stairs. It is so relaxing floating on a raft listening to tunes poolside. You know life is good when the most effort you have to make is trying to sip your drink on the raft without spilling it.

If there are any negatives about this home it would maybe be the bed. We are used to a little firmer mattress at home I think. We both woke up a little sore each morning from the bed. The bed linens could use a little updating, if that is a big deal. Not in bad shape, just a little out of style. I looks to me that the owners have renovated every inch of this home except maybe the interior or the two master suites. Beleive me they are still really nice, just not as modern as the rest.

We would stay here again in a minute. In fact we are looking at going back in June. I would not even look to stay anywhere else. We just loved it that much. This Villa also has an automatic security gate at the top of the drive that opens with a combination, and whole house security system. Very nice touch.

Hi, Daycruise!

Happy to see your post. We, too, are renting through Carefree Getaways next April. We will be staying in Cielo Vista.

Villa Capiz was one of our other choices - but, was already booked. Can you tell me more about the showers. I am curious for future trips.

You mention the incredible view when the doors were open. Do you mean that the door opens to the outside?? Are the showers outdoor garden showers?

Again, just curious for perhaps a future stay!

Thanx! (I look forward to your trip report!) And thanx for the great words regarding Carefree Getaways!

Sue

No the showers are not outdoor garden showers, but they have two doors. One that seperates them from the master suite and one that opens onto the patio/pool deck. This door when opened has a great view. It was really refreshing to wake up and shower with such a nice view. The showers are newer, with very nice tile work, built in corner tile seats.

Thank you for your reply!

That sounds really nice!! Ours doesn't have a door that opens up that way - but, apparently has a half-wall that is screened from about shoulder height up, that has a view of the islands & water.

Don't know how we can wait til next April to go.

Guess I will be logging alot of forum hours from now until then!

Again, so glad that you had a wonderful trip!

Sue

Hi Braceman,

We stayed at Time Out about 1 1/2 years ago in April. Just the two of us. We had visited the USVI on a couple of cruises and stayed on STT at Frenchmans Reef, but this was our first overnight stay on STJ. We had a great time, the villa was one of the nicest and most expensive trips we have done, but we really enjoyed it and felt it was worth it, have a trip planned to return next June. For that trip we will be minimum 4 and maybe 5, so we booked a slightly larger place, and also one that is easier walking to the Westin to accommodate our early 20s kids who will be joining us.

We're in Ohio, so after the winter the warm weather felt great. Our only issue was that we had trouble being out in the sun all day long. Our typical day was mid-morning to early afternoon at a beach for snorkeling, lunch out, stop and buy something for dinner, then the afternoon at the pool. I should add that while we had figured we'd eat out more, we loved dining on the pool deck with the view of the sea and STT and watching the sunset, we ended up eating in all but one evening. We typically hit the Simple Feast (on the main south road, just the other side of the Westin), got something to toss on the grill and some prepared deli sides. Little more expensive than the regular grocery, but EZ preparation. We did get some staples at the grocery and purchased some fish, (which one, it's at the little shopping plaza on the left on the way out of Cruz Bay, maybe the biggest on the island, I don't remember the name) - at any rate, the fish was a disappointment, not very fresh. I can get better here on Ohio.

So, I digress. I was going to point out that our only "complaint", and I hesitate to use that word, more like what would we change to make things even better, was the lack of outdoor shade on the deck. Despite sunscreen, we felt the need to reduce the exposure some, and would have really liked some shade. We wanted to be outside ALLLLL day long, but the direct sun was a bit much. We did speak to the caretaker mid-trip when she checked in to see how things were, and she mentioned that this was a common comment and they were thinking about what to add in the way of an awning on one half so you'd have your choice of in or out of the sun while on the outside deck, it may well be done by now. I'd be curious to see if they've added something.

Other questions? Fire away!

Can't wait for your trip report! My wife and I will be staying at Capiz Oct 15-24...so glad to hear your great review. The website looks awesome..if it exceeds my expectations, which it sounds like it will, then we will be thrilled. I like the idea of the open showers with a view! And the pool area looks great...can't wait to chill out and enjoy the privacy. Did you find it easier to get to town by going up to Centerline Rd or down to Southshore Rd?
Were the cd players able to play cd's burned from a computer?
Thanks......Derek

Hi. I am staying at Villa Capiz in a few months. Can you tell me if the upstairs and downstairs have inside access or do you need to go outside to get from one floor to another?

Thanks so much!
