Will be visiting USVI in late July for our honeymoon. I have only been to USVI once when I was younger with the family and my fiance' has never been. Looking to get some good input on beaches for snorkeling, restaurants, car rental. We are staying in STT at Frenchmans Reef and Morning Star and will take one or two day trips to STJ. I've been told both to rent a car on STT and to not rent a car on STT? I'm affraid if we don't rent on STT and just rent one on STJ for our day trips we will be limited on STT. All help and tips are welcome! Thanks everyone

Of course rent on STT and then you just hop onto the car barge for your day trips to STJ. If your final destination was STJ and not STT, some of the car rental agencies will only allow you to rent a 4WD but 4WD isn't necessary on STT and is perfectly fine for a day trip to STJ. Hertz doesn't allow their cars to go to STJ even for a day. Dependable and Amalie consistently receive excellent reviews.

There are so many beautiful beaches both on STT and STJ. The beach where you're staying is OK but nothing to write home about - but take a look at Magens (no snorkeling ops to speak of but a beautiful mile-long beach with full facilities), Coki, Sapphire, Smith Bay Park, Secret Harbour. So many different restaurants in all price ranges. Look into a day sail for a wonderful experience seeing St John from the water and visiting snorkeling spots inaccessible from the beach and a powerboat trip to the Baths on Virgin Gorda. You MUST have passports to visit the BVI. The concierges at the Reef/Morningstar will have plenty of suggestions and information to give you.

Enjoy a wonderful wedding celebration and then come chill out with us here for a fabulous honeymoon. Don't make too many plans, just come here to relax and enjoy and everything will easily fall into place. Cheers!

Good advice to rent your car on STT and use the car barge. As far as beaches and snorkeling on StJ there are so many great choices. The north shore beaches are within the National Park and they are some of the finest in the Caribbean. This website has great information on the beaches and hiking on both islands. Go near the top of the page just above the advertising banners and hover your mouse over the island you want information on. Click on Beach Guide to see information.
