My son is getting married in late May and is looking for some advice on where to stay for the honeymoon. Does not have to be in USVI. He has been looking online and said yesterday that they all look the same. Obviously that is not the case. He is traveling from Missouri, and has a budget of $6000 in total inclding air etc. I am guessing air at around $1000 for both of them. He Wrote in an instant message:

Cory Faris says:
beach front, water activities, does not have to be all inclusive, but can be, couples only, suite style kitchenette one week stay, looking at st. john, croix lucia, turks

Thanks for any first hand experience you may have. If I had a choice for him, I like him to go to St Croix, as we are migrating there in a few months - and he could report back etc. but where to vacation / honeymoon is not the same as living someplace.

Thanks in advance

Bob

I posted this once - it did not take - if this duplicates I am sorry

Forgot to add that - and this is dad bragging, that they are getting married at the end of May - right after he graduates from med-school - finishing his intership now in physical therapy. Anyway if any has some good ideas - he would love some ideas

Congrats to your son on both of his accomplishments. Congrats to his parents also for a job well done. ;-}

St. Croix is a wonderful place and many people do enjoy honeymooning here. If they choose this island, they'd probably enjoy The Buccaneer or Carambola Resort if they go the hotel route... or perhaps Villa Madeleine if they want a private condo with its own swimming pool. St. Croix does not have any "couples only" resorts, such as Sandals or Club Med. We don't have any all-inclusives yet, either. Even so, most vacationers to St. Croix, especially the ones staying at the nicer resorts, don't bring small children with them. It's unlikely that your son's honeymoon would be seriously marred by an abundance of raucous little ones at the pool or on the beach.

If he'd like to go with a private condo at Villa Madeleine, let me know and I can probably set him up with a unit there that is rarely rented out by the owners at a rate that might fit his budget at least as well as one of the nicer hotels (I'm assuming he doesn't want something mediocre for his honeymoon!) The villas there are ideal for romantic getaways, as the private swimming pool each unit has is surrounded by a courtyard on two sides and by the condo on the other two... so nude sunbathing and skinny dipping won't get them in trouble as it would at a hotel beach/pool. Since it's a condo and has a kitchen, your son can earn extra points by bringing his bride breakfast in bed.

Alexandra,

Thanks so much - I copied your response and E- mailed it to him -

Anyone else have suggestions?

On a personal note - We are getting closer to refining our needs as far as a personal residence re: STX. I don't want to waste your time, but when we have narrowed down our needs, we need to talk. One of the things we were waiting on was the demise of our 13 year old "puppy". We had to put him to sleep a couple of days ago, and never dreamed it would be this hard.

Rambling - sorry - We need to finish this house in order to put in on the market - and of course do the PMV thing. But, I can see no reason anything will be a deal breaker with the move.

Again - thanks for the help - insight.

Hi Bob,

Your son must feel like he is on top of the world. Congrats to you all!

STJ:

Westin surely has too many children about - so that's out.
Caneel Bay is more of an adult crowd. You may find a few children, but not many. It is a popular honeymoon spot. It sometimes gets mixed reviews because it really is "old Caribbean" and some feel that it lacks some of the more modern creature comforts. Others love it because it lacks some of the modern creature comforts. It guarantees romance, though.

I am partial to villas - especially for honeymoons. The private home, private pool, room to lounge around, unmatched tranquility and privacy, deeper connection to the environment, etc...

Both Mooncottage and Gibney Beach Cottage immediately came to mind, but both are booked in May:(

Crowsnest is available, but I have never stayed there and know it is right in Cruz Bay, so I don't know how quiet it is - and there is no pool. Just in case, here is a link to info on it... http://www.mclaughlinanderson.com/caribbean-villas/CROWSNEST/

Ginger Thomas doesn's list availability on the web, so I don't know if it is available. http://www.mclaughlinanderson.com/caribbean-villas/GINGERTHOM/

The Retreat appears to be available from May 27 through June.

I can't seem to locate the website for The Honeymoon Cottage over Francis Bay. That cottage rents form Terry Witham. If anyone knows what happened with her site, please advise.

St John is ultra-romantic and comfortable. You can get pretty much anything for two people with your son's budget on STJ in May.

How is your intended daughter in law? Is she a diamonds and pearls girl, or a flip-flops and shorts girl? Will she shriek in horror if she sees a spider, or beg your son not to kill it? Does she perfer to have her champagne brought to her by a waiter at the pool, or does she prefer to be alone in a private pool with your son and a bottle of bubbly chilling in a bucket on the pool deck?

Is this a surprise for her or does she get to help select the honeymoon spot?

Bluewater, Alexandra,

Thanks so much for the great reviews and advice. I copied and pasted to an E-mail to him - He is a bit busy to spend much time researching. I did tell him to try and log on and get involved personally as I don't want to try and answer questions regarding Sara (the intended). I have known her for a long time and I know that now I am the future in-law, I may not hear the real skinny about what she thinks etc. She is a super lady - Cory has made a great choice - or maybe she made the choice?

Again - thanks so much.

lip -

Sent your response to Cory - as mentioned, his time is limited - but he will eventually surface and answer mail. I asked him to join this and log on and answer some questions - so He may be the one replying to you.

However, if you have something already put together - pictures - description - etc. you can E to me - don't go out of your way as I have no clue what he and Sara are looking for.

Thanks
